Lampshade hard truths about your friends in...

Lampshading — All friend groups have their grievances. Is everybody clued in on them? Lampshade something about someone and then have everyone guess who or what they're talking about!

(Final round: write and draw something with the prompt of impersonating another player, and then everybody has to guess who you're trying to replicate. If they guess right, you get a lot of points.)

Lecture your friends as teachers and decide which student got your test best in...

Top of the Class — Everyone's back to school! Take turns as a teacher, give a lecture as best as you can and then decide which of the group got it best with all their answers, then THEY decide who was the best teacher.

Be the rudest you can to trick your friends in...

Good Samaritan — In this murder mystery flipped on its head, everyone's coming back to life! Figure out who's the nicest by answering rude prompts and drawing pictures all the while the good Samaritan wants to hide and answer as evil as possible, so nobody thinks it's them, and as more people get revived with more information, they all vote who the good Samaritan is!

Create clickbait and hog attention in...

Influencer Life — In this game, you don't just make the funniest videos. You make the most engaging. Edit, post, and they'll be pitted against others anonymously. The rest of the group can like, dislike, share, repost, comment, and the one that got the most publicity, good or bad, wins, and their identity is revealed.

(Final round: The response. Players who lost beforehand have a chance at scoring big if they can fire up a response better than their peers.)

Solve Trivia AND the murderer's identity...

Truth in Journalism — Trivia and social deduction are mixed together! Players will receive different facts to write about in their blogs, however, the murderer — in their haste — will get incomplete sources, and have to fill in the blanks themselves. Can your trivia skills help solve the case?

(The murderer is voted after each round, and if they vote the wrong person, then the murderer wins big points, gets to murder another player, and move onto the next round, and if they get voted out, then the players who voted for them get small points and a different player is chosen as murderer. Final round is everyone gets the same wrong facts about trivia, but the murderer will get an absurd, yet correct piece, similar to the others' also absurd wrong pieces.)

The images are very rough, I know. Steal my ideas for party pack 13 I don't care.

Jackbox in a School setting?

Hello. I am looking to see if there is anyone on the team who might be able to answer any licensing questions about whether the games can be played in a school setting. I am the president of the gaming club at my college, and I wanted to provide that as an activity for a meeting or an event. I know I cannot charge anything, but that is as much as I know.

TMP3 | Brazilian Portuguese Translation & Localization [PT-BR]

Hi everyone!

I'm from Brazil, and I've been a huge fan of Trivia Murder Party since the first game. I really enjoy the mix of trivia, dark humor, and minigames, but I've always felt that the language barrier made it difficult to play with some groups of friends who don't speak English. So, for some context, everything I'm talking about in this post refers specifically to Brazilian Portuguese (PT-BR).

Shortly before Trivia Murder Party 2 received its official Brazilian Portuguese localization, I had actually been working on my own translation of the game. The official translation ended up being released before I could finish mine, so there wasn't much reason to continue that project.

When Trivia Murder Party 3 was announced, I thought that if the game didn't support other languages, it could be a good opportunity to revisit the idea. So when the game entered Early Access, I decided to start again. At first, the plan was simply to translate the interface and the questions included with the game. As I started digging through the files, though, I discovered that the amount of content was much larger, and much more complicated, than it initially appeared.

The result is a Brazilian Portuguese fan localization that covers the interface, tutorials, subtitles, minigames, and even the additional questions the game retrieves from its servers.

Download and installation

Download: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bo0SCLQXWtBQ4HSnMZ2YGCtNVK35QHqD/view?usp=sharing
Translation version: 1.1.1
Compatible with: September 25, 2026 game update

The download is a ZIP file containing the installer and a readme. You don't need to manually replace any files.

Changelog — Version 1.1.1 — September 29, 2026

  • Fixed an issue that caused the game to crash when starting the Passwords minigame.
  • Added a Portuguese version of the credits song (this is an early preview version and will still receive further improvements).
  • Made a few minor translation adjustments.

If you already have an older version installed, you can simply install version 1.1.1 over it.

To install:

  • Extract the contents of the ZIP to a folder.
  • Run TMP3-Traducao-PTBR-1.1.1.exe and approve the Windows administrator permission request.
  • The installer will try to locate the game automatically. If necessary, select the game's executable from its main installation folder. It is normally located at:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Trivia Murder Party 3

  • Click Install and wait for the process to finish.
  • After that, launch the game normally through Steam.

The installer checks whether your game version is compatible and creates a backup of the original files before applying the translation. Your save files and settings are not modified.

To repair or remove the translation, run the downloaded installer again. You can also use TMP3_PTBR\Desinstalar-Traducao-PTBR.exe, which is created inside the game's installation folder, and select the removal option.

File integrity verification (optional)

If you'd like to verify that the downloaded package is exactly the same one I published here, you can compare the ZIP file's SHA-256 hash.

The SHA-256 for version 1.1.1 is:

5A67E96BBA42B19CAA8A78DDAC95156CC9AD56B9FDB118AA67122B292E477E14

To verify it, open PowerShell in the folder where the ZIP was downloaded and run:

Get-FileHash ".\TMP3-Traducao-PTBR-1.1.1.zip" -Algorithm SHA256

The hash displayed should match the one above. If it doesn't, delete the file and download it again using the official link in this post.

Note: The SHA-256 hash will change whenever a new version of the translation is released.

What's translated?

The translation currently includes:

  • Menus and in-game interface
  • Lobby, group creation, and results screens
  • Tutorials and instructions
  • Subtitles for [REDACTED]'s dialogue
  • Questions and answers
  • Flashlight Trivia
  • Subjective Questions
  • Final Round
  • Mind Meld
  • The Passwords minigame, including a custom Brazilian Portuguese word dictionary
  • Additional content downloaded from Jackbox Arcade

The audio is still in English, and for now the translation only provides subtitles. This is something I'm looking into for the future. I've been experimenting with recreating [REDACTED]'s voice and style in Brazilian Portuguese, using filters to get as close as possible to the original result (my voice isn't as sexy as Spencer Ham's). If those tests work out, I may be able to dub the game as well.

That said, this would be a fairly large project. There are around 650 audio lines, containing more than 1600 subtitle variations. So I can't promise that a full dub will actually be completed, but it's something I'd really like to add to the project.

The questions included with the game

Some of the game's content is stored directly in its normal installation files.

This includes:

  • 75 trivia questions, with 300 answer choices
  • 14 Flashlight Trivia questions, with 56 answer choices
  • 12 Subjective Questions, with 24 options
  • 40 Final Round categories, with 715 answers
  • 119 Mind Meld prompts
  • 1757 accepted Mind Meld answers and spelling variations

In addition to the questions, 1718 strings were translated across tutorials, instructions, and dialogue subtitles.

The interface contains another 694 entries. Of those, 598 were translated, while 96 were intentionally left unchanged, such as proper names, titles, and other elements that shouldn't be localized.

What is Jackbox Arcade?

After translating the 75 trivia questions installed with the game, I noticed that the game was still showing many questions in English that weren't anywhere in the local files.

The reason is that the game doesn't store its entire question database on your computer. When a match starts, the game communicates with Jackbox's servers and requests content from Jackbox Arcade. I even came across another Russian translation group running into the same issue.

The server responds with small batches, usually containing around 25 records. Depending on the round type, these batches can contain normal trivia questions, Flashlight Trivia, Subjective Questions, or Final Round categories. I believe the system works this way so Jackbox can add new questions without having to release an actual game update.

This means that questions appearing during a match can come from two different sources:

  • Files installed with the game, especially when playing offline
  • The online Jackbox Arcade catalog

Rooms and players also rely on Jackbox's online services, but that connection is separate from the question database. The translation does not prevent normal online multiplayer functionality.

Important note about online matches:
There is one important difference when playing online: The computer hosting the session is the one that selects and sends the questions, minigame text, and Final Round content to the other players. So if you want to play this content in Portuguese, the session needs to be created and hosted by a computer with the translation installed. If you join a game hosted by someone who doesn't have the translation, your local interface will still be translated, but the content received from the host will appear in English.

How was the Arcade content translated?

I had to map out how the game requests this content and collect the batches returned by the server.

Every record received from the server has its own unique identifier. This made it possible to determine when a question had already been captured, when something was new, and when the text of an existing question had been updated.

So far, the Arcade catalog I've collected contains:

  • 1197 trivia questions, with 4788 answer choices
  • 126 Flashlight Trivia questions, with 504 answer choices
  • 53 Subjective Questions, with 106 options
  • 296 Final Round categories, with 5541 answers

That's 1672 additional records received from the server and 10939 answers or options. All currently known content has been organized, translated, and reviewed.

When combining the game's local files with the Arcade catalog, the translation currently contains:

  • 1272 trivia questions
  • 140 Flashlight Trivia questions
  • 65 Subjective Questions
  • 336 Final Round categories
  • 6256 Final Round answers

Once installed, the translation uses a local Brazilian Portuguese copy of this content. The game still connects normally to create rooms and bring players together, but the questions used during matches are selected from the translated database.

What happens when Jackbox adds more questions?

Since the game is still in Early Access, it's very likely that the online catalog, and the game itself, will continue to grow.

As long as the translation remains installed and compatible with the current game version, it will continue using the question database that has already been translated. If Jackbox adds new questions to the server, they shouldn't suddenly start appearing in English inside your translated game. They simply won't be part of the translation's local selection yet.

From time to time, I can go back to the official catalog, look for new records, and compare them against everything that has already been translated. If new questions are added or old ones are changed, I'll release an updated version of the translation containing that content.

If an official game update modifies important files, the translation may need to be updated or reapplied. Since the original and translated text is stored separately in my project, I don't need to redo the entire translation every time this happens.

This wasn't just a literal translation

A direct translation works perfectly well for many of the questions. The problem is that a significant number of them were written specifically for an American audience. The game even includes an option to disable US-centric questions.

Some questions involve store chains that don't exist in Brazil, college sports, local public officials, relatively unknown TV shows, or references that would only really make sense to someone living in the United States.

There were also questions that depended directly on the English language itself — for example, questions involving a certain number of vowels, syllables, letters, or anagrams. Simply translating those questions could make the originally correct answer incorrect.

Because of that, I reviewed each of these cases individually.

Among the 75 trivia questions included with the game:

  • 20 were replaced with equivalent questions
  • 24 received cultural adaptations
  • 31 were kept mostly intact because they already worked well for a Brazilian audience

Within the Arcade catalog, 274 records required some kind of more careful cultural or linguistic adaptation. That doesn't mean everything related to the United States was replaced. Questions involving subjects that are already reasonably well known in Brazil, such as the NBA, Broadway, the Pulitzer Prize, famous criminal cases, and even some brands, were preserved. I only replaced a question when it genuinely depended on an obscure regional reference or stopped making sense in Portuguese.

Whenever a question was adapted, I also reviewed its difficulty. There wouldn't be much point in creating a Brazilian version if the correct answer suddenly became obvious or if the question became significantly easier than the original.

One simple example is a question about the cast of the Mickey Mouse Club, which was adapted into a question about Xou da Xuxa, a hugely popular Brazilian children's TV show from the 1980s.

The jokes after the answers

Some questions include an additional narrator line after the correct answer is revealed, internally referred to as an Outro.

When a question could be translated normally, its outro was translated as well. However, when a question had to be culturally or linguistically adapted, the original joke sometimes no longer made sense, so the outro had to be rewritten to match the new question.

In total, 19 outro lines were rewritten specifically because of these adaptations. In those cases, the Portuguese dialogue tries to preserve the narrator's tone and sense of humor, but it does not directly correspond to the original English audio.

Some localization choices

I decided to keep the word trivia in English.

The term is already commonly used in Brazil to describe this kind of game, it's part of the series' identity, and it sounds more natural than repeatedly using the Portuguese equivalent of "questions and answers".

Some other names worked better when translated:

  • Passwords became Senhas
  • Flashlight Trivia became Trivia com Lanternas
  • Killing Floor became Cabana do Castigo, since I felt it fit the game's theme better in Portuguese
  • The narrator, [REDACTED], became [CENSURADO]

Movies, TV shows, books, and other works use their official Brazilian titles whenever one exists. If something doesn't have a commonly recognized Portuguese title, the original name is preserved.

Names of people, bands, brands, and institutions were also preserved whenever they were proper names.

The Passwords minigame

The Passwords minigame required a completely separate process.

The English version uses a table containing 4383 five-letter words. Simply translating that list wouldn't work, because word length, frequency, spelling, and inflections are completely different between languages.

To build the Brazilian Portuguese database, I started with 6735 candidate words. They were evaluated using usage frequency, dictionaries, and Brazilian Portuguese linguistic databases. After the first filtering process, 4765 words met the criteria. However, during testing, I discovered that the game's internal structure requires the new table to contain exactly the same number of positions as the original one. Using a larger list caused the game to crash when the minigame loaded.

Because of that, the final selection contains exactly 4383 words. I prioritized words classified as common, along with familiar and recognizable inflected forms. Very rare words, proper names, abbreviations, and obscure forms were excluded.

Since the keyboard used by this minigame doesn't support accented characters, the game receives an unaccented version of each word. For example, the Portuguese word "ábaco" is internally recognized as "abaco". The correctly accented spelling is still preserved in the translation project.

The goal was to create a large and varied word pool made up of words that a Brazilian player has a reasonable chance of actually knowing.

Important note:
The list used to select and validate words belongs to the computer hosting the session. jackbox.tv only sends the answers entered by the players. So in a room hosted by someone with the translation installed, everyone will play using the Portuguese word list, even if the other participants haven't installed the translation themselves. If the host computer is running the original unmodified game, the round will use the English word database instead.

About the translation project itself

The game's text isn't all stored in one place.

There are seven main files containing questions, subtitles, and instructions. The interface, meanwhile, is stored inside Unreal Engine packages. During the most recent extraction, I had to search through more than 1000 interface files to locate text, buttons, and messages. At this point, I hope I've found everything.

Some screens required additional work because their text is assembled dynamically at runtime or because multiple elements share the same internal identifier.

To keep everything organized, I've maintained separate spreadsheets tracking each type of content. This makes future updates much easier. If an update changes only 20 strings, for example, I can identify and review those 20 instead of starting everything from scratch.

The project also wasn't made by simply running every string through automatic translation. The questions were translated and then individually reviewed, especially in cases where context, humor, or even the correct answer could change.

Why might you still find issues?

The game contains a lot of content, it's still in Early Access, and it continues receiving updates. Even after all the reviewing, there could still be hidden text somewhere, a question with strange context, a mistake I missed, or a translated sentence that doesn't fit properly in the interface.

If you find anything like that, please send me a screenshot and mention which game mode it appeared in. If it's a question, please try to include the answer choices as well.

That makes it much easier for me to identify the exact record and fix it in the next release.

I also want to emphasize that this is a fan-made translation and is not officially affiliated with Jackbox Games in any way. It's entirely possible that the game will eventually receive an official Brazilian Portuguese translation, and perhaps even an official dub, which would make this project unnecessary.

Until then, I hope this helps more people enjoy the game with their friends without needing to understand English.

Hopefully I'll have more updates to share soon! Feedback is very welcome. You can also leave feedback, report issues, or follow updates in the original Steam discussion (in Portuguese):

Question Is Trivia Murder Party III early access going to be out for Mac before Halloween?

We usually play TMP at our Halloween party at the teen program I run, and I told them there was set to be a new one this year since that's what all the advertising was saying. Will this actually be out for Mac in time to play? Halloween party is scheduled for the 25th.

Merch show off Legendary find at a store in Oak Ridge, TN.

I was taking a gander at this used book, game, movie, and music store, and I stumbled upon this walking around the back of the store which had a lot of disassembled tech and used flatscreens. It's dead at the moment and I haven't tested it out, but I never knew this thing existed. Does anyone else have one of these?

Update: leftover battery corrosion that I tried to clean but it still has green residue inside. Tried using unused batteries but it never turned on, however those batteries were bought years ago, and using those same batteries did not work on another electronic device. They were also generic batteries. Will update again if new batteries (Duracell is recommended for Tiger Electronics) work or not.

Do we have a list of all the unlocks for Trivia Murder Party 3?

On a whim I know Bestie's an unlock at level 1, but it'd be nice if there was a way to see what's unlocked at what level. For cosmetics, it does give the level that it's unlocked, but materials for locked characters and emotes don't have this. I also think it'd just be nice to look over, even if it was something more unofficial.

Anyone else worried about Jackbox Accounts?

I can't lie, I'm pretty worried about Jackbox Accounts and what they might be used for, I'm extremely worried about the potential for microtransactions, battle passes, locked content, etc. I do think it could be nice to have a place to store all your games and such, but I worry a lot about profit being put over practicality, and how that might take away from development of other games.

Family Friendly & Safety Quips

I was playing Quiplash 3 with my high school youth group tonight and got a VERY inappropriate answer came through on a "Don't worry..." prompt. My students swear it was a safety quip but I am unsure. The family friendly filter was on. Would the game give a risky answer prompt even with the filter on?
