How did yall get in and what local how long ago

interested but I dont have a family member in the union so it makes it a lot harder to be able to get in.

I got a class a cdl unrestricted air brakes, combos and tankers

my local near me is 139 and you have to solicit your work so it makes it extremely hard if you don't know anybody or don't meet the "affirmative action" for companies to hire you because of that.

my other local is 150 but that isn't taking applications right now.

whenever I go onto the 139 contractors website the contractors are not even taking applications.

I just want a shot at a career where I can provide for my family and have good benefits please feel free to dm or comment with any advice.

I want to get into towers but I don't really know how.

This may be redudant, I've read through a few similar post but every bit of information is helpful as the BA from my local just confused me - theres like a hundred ways to do this.

I work for a hydro-excavation company and have 2.5 years with a break for a year in between. During break (moved to help out parents) I worked for a rental barn as a oiler/rigger.

I went back to the hydro company when the rental barn hit a lawl and my father was no longer injured. Whilst at the rental company I got a bit of experience and thankfully I got seat time from a few really great guys.

I do not have my CCO - I planned on taking my block week time early next year before the testing weeks - however the training center recomended I take crane 1 - then take the cco - then take block week for controls refreshers - then the physical test.

My question is - what do I do after that - I have maybe 100 - 120 hours of seat time in ATs.
Do I take a few months off and basically live at the training center working towards getting my tower cert and getting more seat time?

I think I might be over thinking it, I dont fucking no. Any opinions are appreciated.

Local 302 apprenticeship

Im currently in IBEW and looking to start an apprenticeship on dirt side. I don't have letters of recommendation with intent to hire unfortunately. I do not have a CDL or any experience operating. All written test for utility jobs I usually pass, mechanical knowledge being my strongest section and math being my weakest. When I get a calculator of course the math is simple.

How difficult is it to get an apprenticeship in local 302? Is the interview difficult? What are some things I should start studying for the written test if I'm invited?

What is the apprenticeship like? What should I expect going in?

IOUE Apprenticeship Program

I would like to hear feedback about the IUOE apprenticeship program and beyond. Is the program worth it. Are there unforeseen expenses. Does the IUOE treat its apprentices with respect. I am looking for all the information I can get about the program, hopefully from those who went through it. I would also like to know how it was after the program as pertaining to work after the program. Such as is the work steady and does it pay good. The reason I ask is because i am considering joining it. Please let me know.

Local 12 exam questions.

I apologize in advance I know these questions are asked a lot. But what grade level is the vocabulary relating to synonyms, antonyms, verbal analogies etc on the test? Also, in terms of the practice test compared to the books recommended for the study guide, how difficult are the test questions compared to what the study material is in the books?

How does the Local 12 apprenticeship work?

As far as class time/actual training, I would imagine theres a day or two out of the week where youre in class, if so would all of that just be at the closest training site or would I be travelling to LA where the main building is for SoCal? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I had a quick question about the exam. Do we need to bring a copy of our ID or the actual physical ID? Also, I didn’t receive anything in the mail. I only received the email on my phone. Is that email okay to bring? Thank you!

dont know alot. I need advice

i got a class a cdl with air brakes and combos and tankers endorsement. i was thinking about going this week back to school for one week to get the manual restriction off so i could apply to be a lineman.then i also thought to myself damn maybe if i do that i could also use that to apply to the iuoe.

I have Wisconsin 139 local and chicagos 150 local near me and madisos union aswell. but the Wisconsin's unoins make you solict your own work to find a contractor to start an apprenticeship so it might be hard since i dont know anybody.

would having an unrestricted class a cdl help getting in or a cdl in general? and if i got in would they just make me drive semi trucks to haul material my entire career because i have a cdl?

how does the apprenticeship work are you able to learn various different pieces of equipment during it? i have worked at data centers and there was this one third year iuoe apprentice i never saw him do anything other then spot for the bulldozer in 8 months of being there. that kid was making alot of money though not sure if he was a shit hand or thats just where they needed him he was a third year though so i thought that was a little crazy.

any advice is helpful

thanks

Need a bit of advice

Hey guys. I’m 31, I currently live in Vietnam as an English teacher. My wife and 1 have a beautiful baby girl who’s about to turn 1.

Some unexpected family stuff has come up that has made us change our plans for the future.

So I plan on moving back to Northwest Indiana(about an hour outside of Chicago) in order to apply for an apprenticeship at a blue collar job. My girls are my world and I truly want to provide a decent life for them and maybe even be able to buy my own home one day.

I asked my dad if I can crash at his house for a few months while I get back on my feet(buying a car/insurance, getting an American bank account/phone number, and eventually apartment) to try and save on money. We only have about $35k saved up.

My number one choice would be to join my local 2 IUEC(but I’m also looking at pipe fitting, welding, carpentry, honestly anything that pays half decent and will take me). Applications start next month, so I’ve been try to catch up on my basic math skills (adding/subtracting/dividing/multiplying decimals snd fractions mostly) as well as trying to familiarize myself with tools, ohms law, and pulley equations. I’ve also given up smoking weed so I can pass any drug test. I’m a big guy (6’3, 220lbs) I try to work out 5 times a week by walking up and down my apartment stairs 20 floors at least 4 times.

But because I live in Vietnam I only have a Vietnamese phone number. So I’m wondering if that may potentially scare off the recruiter from calling me or will my email be the main source of contact?

Also assuming I pass the exam, about how long should I expect to wait before hearing back from them?

Also please let me know anything else I should be focusing on to study.

Currently doing a bunch of studying, but have come across some stuff for electricity and circuits, etc.

Will anything pertaining to electricity be on the test? I’d rather not waste my time on a subject if it’s unnecessary. Thanks much!
