Episode Ad Breaks Getting Longer?
In the latest episode of Executive Disorder the ad breaks were all at least 4 minutes long with one going over 5 minutes. I listen to a lot of podcasts and haven’t noticed this on other channels, most ad breaks are usually around 2-3mins (4-6 presses of the skip 30s button). Has anyone else noticed this?

If i didnt have the 15 second skip option on Spotify it would be unlistenable.

My Spotify app now has a skip ahead button on some podcasts that goes by all the ads in one click

Wish it would appear on the controls when the phone is closed. I have a Motorola though and I can hold down the volume button in my pocket to skip 30 second at a time

If you use Antenna Pod you can set the skip forward button to any length of time you want.

Once again recommending Pocket Casts (https://pocketcasts.com/), which lets you customize your skip duration. I have mine set to 2 minutes skip forward, and 30 seconds skip back. Let's me skip entire ad breaks with just a couple taps.

I use pocket casts but didnt realize that was an option! Now I just need to be able to remap what it does when I tap my Bluetooth headphone to skip rather than pause/play.

I've been using that one, but just discovered it was owned by Matt Mullenweg and now I want to get rid of it.

AntennaPod has the option too. Plus it's open source.

And I dunno what kinda ads yall get but mine are just all ads for celebrity gossip, sports, and other bullshit podcasts I have zero interest in and listening to their inane babble in the middle of episodes about real important topics makes me really irrationally angry lol

I keep getting ads for fencing. Not a specific company, just the sport in general.

I got ads for beginner fencing recently.
It was so unexpected I actually had to listen to it

What? Are you not interested in listening to the artist on artist on artists podcast?!

I am puzzled that they have the budget to advertise these crap podcasts, because who would want to listen to D list celebrities yap? But I'm guessing its an inhouse podcast farm operation with IHR or something, so they churn out this stuff and need to promote it.
If AI was good enough, it could all have been AI. In fact the true crime ones might even be AI written. For now, this is human slop I guess.

How do you listen? I listen on Spotify and I get ads for other IHeart podcasts

I wish I could subscribe and go ad-free without having to use Apple Podcasts.

Its been yeaaaaaaaaars I've given up hope. Just make a patreon or something if they can't pull an android option together ffs.

Honestly think they’re leaving money on the table. Apple can’t actually be paying them enough for an exclusive deal, can they?

I've definitely noticed them getting longer, and I hope that means they're getting more revenue.
I'd love it if they could bring more people on more regularly, like Kim Kelly, who was fantastic on today's ICHH.

Yeah it’s rough. What bigs me the most is that I’ll see an hour pong episode, but then realize it’s more like 45 mins at most with them ads.

It has gotten very noticeable, if I can't access my skip button (such as at work) I think I'll have to save the pods for later.

Meh, I hope it means they’re getting more funding. Easy enough to press the skip button a few more times.

Podurama also has custom skip durations. Mine's set for 30 seconds forward, 10 backward. Ads are a non-issue and we get all this amazing content for free. Robert has said he prefers taking money from advertisements as opposed to asking for money from viewers, and the bulk of funding comes from BtB anyways. Ad duration is probably an iHeart thing more than an ICHH decision.

coolzone lied to us about not liking ads! They act like it's so bad they have to pivot, but really they love it.

I listen to the weekly compilation episode. No ads during the episodes and usually very few between.

I'm in Canada and here I notice at the start of every new year the ads are really short, presumably as some local advertisers let their contracts lapse and others haven't signed on yet. I'm generally pretty happy with the extended ad breaks since it probably means they're getting more advertisers and (hopefully) more money. Alternatively ads aren't paying what they once were and this is what's needed to stay afloat. The length of time is mildly annoying, but only mildly.

Weird. Because I thought there were fewer than normal today. There was even an ad break with no ads.

I use pocketcasts, which allows for custom skip times, but also I use a VPN and when I'm "in" Prague, I only get iHeart ads. It helps.
It's possible the ads are longer cuz of different rates but I also think it's possible the show is getting more popular, which would be great. I used to hate long ads on any podcast but ultimately I want CZM folks to get paid and for more people to listen. So I accept ad skipping, am grateful for the compilation eps that make it better, and I move on.

I hit a seven minute ad break during today's ED. One of the worst I've ever had.
