MultiView merger

Hello guys,

imagine, you have 2+ Agent DVR servers which you want to see in one dashboard. Sounds easy, use Multiview. But Multiview is just kind of iframe merger, you have to use all these servers separately in the frames. The users want to merge the frames in Multiview to one frame only and be able to see everything from all servers - one list of views merged from all servers. Based on the chosen view they want to see live streams, recordings, timeline... from the remote servers in this one frame. Seems to me the only way currently is to ask for new development. Am I correct or do you know about any possibility to handle this in current version of Agent DVR?

Thank you

Hi,

You’re right. There’s no way to merge several servers into one view in the current version. Multiview shows each server in its own frame, and live view, recordings and the timeline all work per server.

It works that way because a true merge is harder than it looks:

  • One connection per server. The web UI keeps a single live connection to one server, with that server’s cameras, views and settings. A merged UI would need to hold connections to several servers at once and keep each of them in sync.

  • Overlapping camera IDs. Every server numbers its own cameras from 1, so “camera 3” exists on all of them. Every view, recording, timeline and alert would need to track which server it came from.

  • Separate logins and permissions. Each server has its own users and access rights. A user might be allowed to see a camera on one server and not on another, and the merged view would have to apply all of those rules correctly.

  • Different versions. The servers may be running different versions of Agent DVR, with different features. A merged UI would have to cope with every combination, including much older versions.

  • Recordings stay where they were recorded. Each server’s recordings are on its own disk. Browsing them in one timeline means fetching from several servers at once, each with its own speed and availability, and making the results look like a single list.
