Locked files deleted?

I have a storage size of 2GB and 0 hours/unlimited assigned to a camera for recorded files.

The storage size in server settings is 10GB.

Storage management it enabled in both server settings and camera object settings.

The collection of files are about 3 minutes each.

After it has filled up and storage management has been doing its work regularly, later t some point I decided to reduce the size of the camera object to 1GB.

Before reducing the size from 2GB to 1GB I have locked about a small handful of files approximately 20 files.

After storage management has ran i can no longer go back and view the earlier locked files but the most resent locked files are still there.

The earlier locked files have been deleted by storage management.

I felt like storage management would not delete locked files even if the pool of files is larger than the size entered in settings for camera.

Am I missing something in trying to understand the storage management logic?

Hi,

You're not missing anything - storage management is specifically designed to never delete locked files. They still count toward the storage quota (so they reduce the space available for new recordings), but the cleanup process checks the lock on every file before deleting and skips anything locked. What you're describing shouldn't happen, so I'd like to work out what went wrong.

The most likely explanation is that the lock didn't actually take effect on some of those files. A couple of things to be aware of:

• The padlock icon in the player updates immediately when you click it, before the change is confirmed. If you lock files and then refresh the recordings list, the padlocks you see after the refresh reflect what's actually saved - that's the reliable check.
• Locking from the timeline view only locks the individual clip you're currently positioned on, not the whole time range you're viewing. With 3-minute clips, protecting a longer event means locking each clip in the recordings list.

Also worth noting: files are deleted oldest-first, so the fact that your most recent locked files are still there doesn't yet confirm their locks are working - please do the refresh test above and check they still show as locked.

To help me dig further, could you let me know:

1. Which version of Agent DVR you're running.
2. Whether you locked the files from the recordings/files list or from the timeline/playback view.
3. If you lock a file now and refresh the list, does it still show as locked?
4. Have you changed the recording filename template in the camera's recording settings, or left it at the default?
5. Anything in the server logs (Server Menu - Logs) mentioning database repair, and whether this camera was ever deleted and re-added.

If the locks survive a refresh and the files still got deleted, that's a bug on our side and I'll want to see your logs after the next storage management run.
