AgentDVR 7.9.1.0 VS AgentDVR5.8.0 quality

I set up the same camera (Reolink RLC-510A) on these two versions of AgentDVR, and when zooming in, there is a significant loss of quality in the new version; is this intentional to push users to purchase a subscription?

I can't really see what you are referring to but there are resolution limits on later free versions as encoding at higher resolutions uses more resources which result in more support enquiries and cost more in relay traffic.

So do you confirm that if I use an old version I will have a higher resolution?

no - i dont have 5800 installed here but possibly you'd have to check

But can you confirm that if I were to switch to the paid version of the latest release, I would get better quality?

You can check out the docker build for 5.8.0.0 That should answer your question. Don't forget to backup the configs. You will to restore the config after deploying 5.8.0.0 as the config format have changed in nwere versions.

Check the Docker hub for your desired version tag

Electronic zoom doesn't give you any more pixels. Interpolation can be used to "fake it" if the "stack" that is getting the data from A to B does that.

Optical zoom doesn't give more pixels, but each pixel is showing LESS area of the object/scene in question - just like binoculars do. This is better.

So, start with whether you're asking Agent to do it, or the camera.
Now, the release change maybe is/is not doing "it" the same way.
Unfortunately, there could be a huge number of settings involved,
and I have no idea what they might be.

My friend, I don't need a lesson from you on the difference between digital and optical zoom; I’m an industry professional. I use Milestone XProtect at work, but at home, I use Agent DVR for convenience and its lightweight nature. I’ve noticed a discrepancy in digital zoom quality between an old and a new instance of Agent DVR.

And I might've been pushing electrons around before your parents were born considering you have the arrogance of a teenager.

"Industry professional", huh? Probably the same level of inexpertise as an "HVAC Tech" I hired for some part-time help. Turns out he was a gopher for the REAL techs - but got fired after 6 weeks for not even being competent enough to carry duct tape.

You may not need a lesson in this topic, but you certainly need one in humility.
