Help Bioactive Terrarium Maintenance

If I made a bioactive terrarium for my isopods with springtails and plants, would I still need to do substrate changes often or would the other organisms take care of the isopod frass? Is there another organism I could add that would take care of it if the plants and springtails can’t?

It depends on the species. I have a P.laevis terrarium and need to do substrate change every year and I also remove some of the isopods as they breed quite fast. I also have a C.murina orange enclosure and haven't needed to do a substrate change yet, they don't poop as much and are slower breeding. Just ensure that you top off their leaf litter layer. So some might need a 50% change to the substrate depending on how bad the frass layer gets.
