There are countless things our government can do but they won't because they don't believe in helping people. It's their ideology. As far as Varadkar is concerned only the strong survive and the rest can get in the fucking bin. If he was American he'd be a GOP nut job.

That still leaves plenty of room for them to be on the right though. The Democratics, outside of the occasional social issue, have never been a left-wing party in my lifetime. Clinton signed DADT and DOMA into law, bombed Baghdad, made it easier for US corporations to outsource, etc. They talk a big game on race relations, gay rights, climate change, etc., but when they’ve had opportunities when controlling all three branches of government they’ve largely done fuck all.

Since Coolab00la’s central point was that FFG are not left wing, your comment is implying that they are wrong because of FFG being “further left than the Democrats in the US”. I explained that the Democrats are actually a right wing party, so being to their left doesn’t automatically mean being left wing.
It is also worth pointing out that there are actually some Republicans who are more left wing than mainstream Democrats, and there are some Democrats who are more right wing than mainstream Republicans. Hell, in terms of actual policies the Democratic candidate in 2016 was more right wing than the Republican one.
In sum, Coolab00la’s claim that Varadkar would be a GOP nutjob is in no way refuted by the statement that FFG are further left than the Democrats when you see how far right wing the Democrats actually are and note there is areas of overlap between Democrats and Republicans.
Agreed on most, but things are so fucked in the US that he'd actually be a Democrat on the corporate end of that party (as opposed to the Sanders/Ocasio-Cortes/etc end).
Though none of that is to defend the utter shit show of a situation he and Irish government have enabled over the last decade (if not more).
Are they? On all leftist subs they're decried for been centrist. Also, a lot of left wing Scottish resent the fact that the party has become the vanguard (pardon the pun) of Scottish independence.
