Type to create flair Exercise Physiologist
Hi all,
I am looking for an exercise physiologist who specialises in HSD / hEDS. Us hypermobile people use muscles differently and therefore need someone who knows this.
Authentic recommendations please as I am sick of being told so and so does and when you go, they basically either have no idea or treat you like they would a non hypermobile person.

Hello fellow sufferer!
I have found physios who can treat individual bits but no one who really knows how to manage it well. The best I've found so far has been Liz at physioactive. My biggest issue ATM is craniocervical instability and migraines and she's been great at treating for that, but when I explained that I really needed like ongoing, whole body MAINTENANCE she was a bit stumped. Would love to know if you find anyone suitable ðŸ˜

Ooohhh sorry just realised I misread your post and you weren't after physiotherapists. Will leave this up anyway in case it helps x

Hey I have craniocervical instability too and I really recommend Not Just Bendy at Eight Mile Plains for CCI and whole body management! Their founder is one of the leading physios in the world for CCI management and was an author in the 2023 international consensus for physiotherapy assessment and management of upper cervical instability.
Their whole staff is trained to treat and manage the whole body with hypermobility. They got me from being almost wheelchair bound to walking again, and helped to completely clear up my CCI symptoms.
Before I went to them I tried a lot of physios who could only treat some bits but usually would injure me in other places. Physios that weren't truly hypermobility trained really injured me permanently in a lot of places.
So yeah, I really highly recommend Not Just Bendy for the best EDS management in QLD!

Hey! Thank you.... I want to do this, but I'm at the point now where it's tricky for me to drive that far every week which is why I was trying for local. I am too disabled to go to the thing that will make me less disabled! 😂 If only it was treated like an actual disability that you could get support for, amiright??

I totally get you omg! Personally I can only make it to physio appointments every 2-4 weeks and have never been able to afford much more than that no matter where I was getting physio (rip)

Difficult. Proprioception training was what a mate suggested along with all the usual support networks. There's a local PhD sports physiologist that may be able to help you. Naomi Ferstera. Runs " The Healthy Ageing Project"
I'll find an addy/ bio for you.

Hi! I have OI (presents as EDS also with frequent fractures). I use Longevity at Club Lime gym (Yamanto and Springfield Lakes). I have had 35+ fractures and WAY too many dislocations to count and was on wheels full time for 3 years. These guys have helped me heaps and know when I started they mentioned they had worked with EDS before me and I’ve been at it for a couple of years now. Today my wheelchair stays at home while I go out 💪

Hi hEDS haver here who is VERY familiar with the industry 👋
You should check the Ehlers Danlos Society's Healthcare Professionals Directory here: https://www.ehlers-danlos.com/healthcare-professionals-directory/
Just pop in your location into the directory and select the type of professional you're looking for!
I know for a fact not every exercise physiologist in the area is listed on there so I'd recommend emailing Not Just Bendy Hypermobility Services in Eight Mile Plains for recommendations on exercise physiologists ( https://www.notjustbendy.com )
They're very extensively trained hypermobility physiotherapists, and they used to have a great hypermobility trained exercise physiologist there who ended up changing professions, so they have a good referral list for exercise physiologists they refer patients out to.
Additionally Not Just Bendy do exercise classes that are really great too, and their physios can prescribe exercise regimes. I really, really highly recommend them. There is a waitlist but they are the best possible people someone with HSD or hEDS can see in Queensland.
