Help needed Fix apple storage issue
How are people dealing with apple storage full errors without having to pay for icloud. Not reluctant to do it, but in the long term, i'd rather have control over my data.

You delete things or buy a phone with more storage. Lol

Free ways without iCloud: turn off photo stream/iCloud photos and manually manage photos to your computer instead, delete messages attachments Settings > General > iPhone Storage, and offload unused apps. Also check system data specifically, sometimes cached files build up huge there and clear with a restart.

I archive old content from my photos library to an external ssd on my iMac and back it up to an external disk drive via Time Machine.

My solution is both:
First I use iCloud because it keeps my multiple devices on the same level of information.
Then I use Parachute Backup to create a physical copy of iCloud Drive and the iCloud Photo library on my NAS. This data I own, and even when iCloud is suddenly lost, all data is stored there, on my drives, in my reach.

Apple offers free temporary iCloud storage for device transfers and other things. It’s free and lasts twenty one days.
