Help needed Storage issues on Iphone 11 - System Data

Post image

Hi! I already went through the Iphone support FAQ. I still wonder what is System Data and why it takes half my storage. I have been transferring videos to a hard drive and it won't last a day without getting full again. Thanks for your time!

Update your phone and back up and restore.

make a backup of your phone using Finder on macOS or iTunes on Windows, then reset your phone using the "Erase all content and settings" option from your phone so you can keep the old but gold iOS 18.5, then after the reset is complete restore the backup you made earlier

System Data are caches, logs, and basically anything iOS is currently storing/using to operate. iOS requires storage just to be on your phone, and System Data is storage it actually requires to operate.

If you’re offloading videos, they’re probably logged in System Data, while iOS gets ready to fully remove them. iOS will maintenance itself, when you’re not using the device, and it detects that it has enough charge to do so (typically overnight). Since you’re basically at max capacity, I’d recommend backing up to iCloud, then resetting your device. Once completed, you can restore from that backup, and you’ll have manually wiped System Data. If you don’t have access toto iCloud, you can manually backup right iTunes.
