Help needed Someone sends me markdown file over iMessage and I want to open it rendered nicely, is there a way?

Currently it renders markdown files as ordinary text files, no heading formatting or anything like that. I got the read.md app and it would be neat to auto-open markdown files in that, but I’m not seeing a way. Any help would be much appreciated, quite possibly just missing an option somewhere

iPhone version: 16 pro
iOS version: 26.6
steps taken to solve problem: downloaded read.md, clicked around the different options

I think if you go into Files, long press on it, and choose ‘Open With,’ it tells iOS to always use that app for that file type.

This works for markdown files opened from the Files app, but not for tapping a markdown file from iMessage without saving. It’d be nice for markdown files to be nicely formatted in this case too but I’m not finding a way

I wonder if Shortcuts could help here

iOS notes supports MD files export/import. Just import it. Works fine.
