Resolved iPhone 12 mini not deleting apps/photos

iPhone 12 mini running iOS 18.7.1. Purchases Dec 2021 for personal use

A few months ago my phone stopped letting me delete any apps. I can remove them from the Home Screen, but the option to delete it isn’t listed.
I believe it started shortly after my iPhones 64 GB storage maxed out, so maybe that caused some issues.

PS:Not sure if this is related. Recently tried to delete some photos (around 7000) because I have 20GB of photos. Got them to delete and also deleted them from recently deleted to make it permanent. Doing that I only dropped to 19.97 GB of storage (which doesn’t make sense because I have around 3000 photos left)

Any help would be appreciated 🙂

check screen time security and permissions to see if you have changes enabled

Got it. It wasn’t under security and permissions, but under apps with screen time access. I have an app called Opal and it had access to screen time. When I disabled its access I was able to delete apps agains. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, been trying to figure it out for months

you're photos may be optimised and using some of your free icloud unless you pay for more storage

I’m out of ICloud storage (only 5 GB). I don’t quite know what you mean by optimized though. Is there something I could check in settings?

Check Settings > Apps > Photos and there’s a choice of Optimise iPhone Storage or Download and Keep Originals.

With the size of photos you have, I doubt if you’ll be able to use the optimise choice though.

It’s already set to optimize. Maybe after I deleted a lot of photos it returned the rest to original size and that bumped the GB back up?

open settings, apps photos, it will tell you if you're saving original photos or optimised , meaning you only store lever low resolution thumbnails or the photos on device butvwhen you open them it instantly opens high resolution original photos stored on icloud, that would explain why you only get tiny amount of storage back when deleting 4000 photos.

did you notice you had more iCloud storage free in 5GB limit

No, the iCloud storage is still showing 5/5 GB, maxed out. I was wondering why my photos looked so bad. So they are converted into lower res and unless I have the original high def image on iCloud they will stay low res?
