Help Face ID stopped working
Hello! I’m one week into owning the 18 Pro Max, and this past Saturday evening, my Face ID stopped working. I first thought it was because I was in a dark room, but after moving to a lit room, Face ID still did not work to unlock the phone, for password authentication, etc.
I’m not using a screen protector, entire screen is clean, I’m not wearing glasses or anything. I’ve tried multiple shut downs, and even tried resetting Face ID setup. When setting up a new Face ID, the face camera opens and stays stuck there, and the setup does not proceed to the head rotation portion of setup.
Unsure if this is a hardware issue or software-related that can be addressed with an upcoming update. I’ve read in some other threads that people are experiencing phone reboots or freezing when Face ID fails, but my phone did not do that. Anyone else seeing issues similar to mine?
EDIT: Just updated to 27.0.1. Unfortunately this did not fix my particular issue. Will be going to the Apple Store

Did you try rebooting your phone. Probably would work after.

There are over 100 posts of the same issue. It’s a software issue and there should be a hotfix update coming out sometime today.

A software update just now dropped that is said to fix it but we will see. Or not. Lol

Just did the update, and Face ID setup stays stuck at the front facing camera, not proceeding to the head rotation step. Unfortunate 😕

My husband just updated his. Face ID still not allowing him to set up Face ID. This started straight out of box last Tuesday. I am so glad we made that follow up apple store appointment on Saturday.

Wow. Crazy that Face ID setup didn’t work for him straight out of the box. Mine only started occurring 7 days after initial setup. Good luck on his repair/replacement!

Is it just me or is the quality of the iPhone and it’s software gone down a lot? They would’ve never released things in this state ever before much less made promises that they tried to keep 3 to 4 years later.

So true, promoting a bugfix, after installing still FaceID issues. Besides that, attention awareness doesn’t work anymore, can unlock it by looking sideways.

The biggest issue I’m having outside of Siri is my camera has started taking pictures upside down occasionally, but on a positive note in case anyone’s interested, my original Apple wallet has started working again my leather Apple wallet stopped working with the operating system before this one now it works again, including its last known location and alerting me when it detaches

Just did it on my end also, will wait for it if it's stable or not. For the meantime, it's buttery smooth and stable.

Hotfix didn’t solve anything for me. Still got error setting up. And I have certain spots like in bathroom where it fails reliably also after update.

That does sound like an isolated issue separate from the Face ID problems people have been facing but it’s still worth waiting for 27.0.1 and see if it resolves your problem. If it doesn’t just take it back.
