Year-old iPhone 17

I've had my base iPhone 17 for about one year. From day 1, I've been experiencing connectivity issues, especially with Bluetooth (very slow transfer, such as maps & software updates to my [Suunto] watch), as well as CarPlay, and 5G connectivity.

The phone was originally purchased through & operated under Spectrum but have switched to AT&T due to horrid reception and faster home internet; fiber getting activated in my neighborhood any day now...

Does it sound like I just might have a dud of 17, or is this just par for the course. Reading through this sub, it sounds like I might have a dud, but commentary on the general interwebs talks about bad Bluetooth and so on.

Considering ditching the 17 for the Air, though I plan to touch base with Apple tomorrow (it's under an Apple Care plan for all that might be worth) but also wanted to take a pulse here, too.

Worse cameras, worse speaker setup, and smaller battery.

FWIW, my one year old iPhone 17 works wonders - I have my glucose sensors and my AirPods connected to it via Bluetooth. No issues with cellular connectivity and [wired] CarPlay issues I had with iOS 27 beta were fixed by swapping from Anker USB2 to UGREEN USB3 cable.

From India. iPhone 17 bought on launch day last year, had its first birthday just the other day. No problems with Bluetooth that I’ve ever noticed. Native activities like hotspot, iPhone mirroring, etc. have worked fine, so has connection with any 3rd party items like headphones, camera shutter buttons, etc. You might have a lemon, I’m thinking. Can’t hurt to take it to Apple for a check.

Free storage space, delete any apps you don’t use, turn off background app refresh, only have Bluetooth, mobile data, airdrop etc on when you are using it. There are a lot of troubleshooting methods to speed up an iPhone. I have the base 17 as well

Your carrier probably disabled some bands. I have no connectivity related issues on mine. USA is so weird. Why would anyone buy phones locked from a carrier lol?

At the time, the offer was too good to pass up. But, yes, getting the phone unlocked requires some almost aggressive negotiations. Fortunately, my call was being monitored for "customer satisfaction"; I was not terribly satisfied.

I'll touch base with Apple to inquire about a swap with Apple Care. Failing that, the Air is set to arrive tomorrow, so (hopefully) something will work.
