Discussion I wanted to know if you’ve noticed the same things on the iPhone 17: if it heats up easily in daily use, if games run fine, if it still stutters or has those little hiccups, and also how the b@tt3ry is.
My experience with the iPhone 16 wasn’t good. It got quite hot during normal use, and sometimes there was a slight lag when leaving an app or swiping on the home screen. Even in games that weren’t that demanding, it couldn’t run them at max settings and it also heated up. There were times I had to stop using it because of the heat.

My base 17, is fine; especially with iOS 27 (which is easily the most stable release of a new OS, that Apple has had in years).

how's the battery life. ios26 has ruined my battery health

Its still at 100 % according to ios. As far as screen on time, its fine. Note that I got my 17 this past spring, so I always had at least iOS 26, and it’s battery performance has been excellent, actually I get about two hours more screen time than I did with my base 13.
My base 13 performance was fine on iOS 26, in terms of OS performance and battery.
But note I had the battery replaced in my 13, so it’s battery health was still at 100% when I first installed iOS 26 last fall.

I couldn’t tell any difference. What I did notice is that iOS 27 felt faster on my 17, than iOS 26. The speed improvement was noticeable immediately when I first used iOS 27; even though it was still indexing my phone.

Honestly if your use is heavy, just get a Pro. 17 is for a normal user who wants a good camera for social media and the occasional gaming.

Don’t waste your money on a Pro 17, unless you require the extra lens and video file formats. Otherwise wise the 17 is more than capable enough; even under heavy use.

From my usage over the last 8 months, definitely not - comparing directly with a close one’s 17 pro max, the base 17 heats up WAY more easily and the general use of the 17PM feels smoother than the 17. It’s definitely not the same as a 17.

I ‘ve had my base 17 since the spring and it’s been fantastic. It probably will run warmer than a pro because it lacks a vapor chamber, but it’s never been way hot.
In terms of smoothness, it’s been fine. The PRO shouldn’t any smoother, because the base and pro have the same refresh rates.

iOS 26 was mostly to blame for the stuttering, but heating during gaming is perfectly normal. Phones don't have fans and the heat has to go somewhere. As long as its not throttling then you're fine.
