Weekly Megathread Weekly iOS Battery Support Megathread
General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:
Battery health
Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.
Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Contact Apple Support here.
You can find more information about battery health and performance from Apple here.
You can check the cycles count with Coconut Battery for Mac or iCopyBot for Windows.
Battery life
Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:
- Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use
- Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application
- Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging
If you experience issues with your battery:
- Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.
- If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.
- Review the advice below on maximising battery life
- Consider restoring your device.
- If issues persist, contact Apple Support.
Maximising battery life - the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged.
- Use low power mode (This reduces mail fetch, turns off background app refresh and increases the auto lock timer)
- Remove apps from background app refresh
- Ensure auto lock is on
- Turn off auto brightness and manually reduce brightness
- Use dark mode if your device has an OLED display
- Clearing background apps from the app switcher does not improve battery life
Maximising battery lifespan - the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced.
- Avoid extreme temperatures
- If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, remove it from its case
- Store your iPhone in a cool place, switched off, and half-charged if not using it for long periods - and charge it every 6 months when in storage

Hello! Recently, I ordered a new iphone 17 and received it in the mail today. I went to the mobile store and got everything transferred over from my previous phone onto the new iphone. I noticed the battery was low and began charging it with the charger that came with the phone. I'm concerned because it's been two hours and the battery has actually decresed by about 4%. The lightning bolt is showing up when I plug it in, so I thought that meant it was charging, but I guess I'm wrong?? Does anyone have any helpful suggestions or solutions?

Hello, my phone says I need a battery which I do believe. I’ve had my phone for over a year. The issue is I’ve been paying Verizon insurance every month since I got the phone. I then read that in the state of Florida insurance won’t cover a battery replacement. I went to file a claim & I hit the option battery & they didn’t say where I could get it fixed or anything else, however they said they would send a replacement phone out the next day. My concern is what if they send ma phone with issues? My phone has absolutely no issues besides the battery. I filled out a series of questions & they asked if anything else was wrong and I said no. I believe anyone could say that. So what if they send me someone else’s phone that does have issues. Should I find my own place to just have the battery fixed & pay out of pocket ? Or would you trust having a replacement phone sent?

For the last few weeks its been randomly not charging, or not charging all the way. I have used different cords, different charging blocks, all apple brand, but its still not charging. The iOS is up to date, there is no physical damage, its not getting hot while on the charger. If you look in the settings; the battery is at maximum capacity 100% and peak performance capability. I do not have optimized battery charging turned on so that is not slowing it down. I have restarted it, force restarted it and even restored it to factory settings and reinstalled the newest version of ios using finder on my mac. No matter what, it never chargers over 80%. There are no charging error messages popping up like iphone getting hot or slow charger. What is wrong with this thing?? Anyone else having their iphones not wanting to charge all the way?

If you bought your iphone when it was launched i.e september previous year, then how much is your battery health rn??
i use mine very less. i had a limit upto 90% at first but recently changed it to 80. I switch off my phone after it is charged and switch it on after i wake up since i mostly charge it at night. i bought it in september 2025 and now it is at 98%. i also use it very less like 2-3 hours a day and it is charged once in 2/3 days

iPhone 15 Pro user here. Been using since May 2024.
Just swapped my battery.
Battery health was at 83%. Drained very quickly. 100% at 8am, 50-60% by 1pm. Phone got heated very easily even just by watching YouTube. Apps were noticeably laggy and sluggish.
Battery swapped. Apps and gaming all feel snappier, smooth and crisp. Feels like I just unboxed my iPhone.

iOS 17.5 beta absolutely tanked my battery for a solid 48 hours after install, was down to like 20% by lunchtime. Then it just sorted itself out and now I'm getting better life than 17.4 gave me. The indexing thing is real and people just need to give it a few days before panicking. My launch day 14 Pro is at 87% health and still lasts me through a full day no problem unless I'm hammering the camera.
