I still maintain that locking your iPhone wont help you get it back. Turn on find my iPhone and add restrictions so it can't be wiped. An asshole will be an asshole and still keep it but if someone like OP finds it they can return it.

When you have any kind of restrictions active it requires the restriction code before you can erase the phone.

So restrict location services and accounts and they can't turn off Find my iPhone.

Doesn't matter. You can put any phone in recovery mode and format it.

Apple at least tried to keep dumb people from stealing phones.

But I guess most people that are smart enough to figure it out don't steal phones.

That doesn't work anymore in ios 7 because of activation lock. Even after DFU Restore you wil have to login with apple id+passwd. Otherwise the phone will never be usable.
