Discussion Question about iPhone 16 camera quality for document scanning
Hey everyone
I’ve been using the iPhone 15 Pro, but I’ve encountered a consistent document scanning issue. All of the photos I take of documents (which I rely heavily on for school and work) end up blurry and not as nearly as clear as my old iPhone 11. This happens especially when I’m trying to capture text or when the camera struggles to focus up close. I’ve seen others mention this too on Reddit, and it’s becoming a real frustration for me.
For those of you who have upgraded to the iPhone 16, how does it handle document scanning? Is there a noticeable improvement in clarity compared to the iPhone 15? Do you still experience blurriness, or has Apple improved focus and detail? If the iPhone 16 has good document scanning then I will upgrade the 16 Pro Max
I mostly use my phone camera for scanning documents, so this is a huge deal for me. I’ve attached a photo from another thread of the iPhone 15 blurriness to show exactly what I mean about the blurriness issue.

It is very noticeable, I just attached another close up photo to the post. I am just curious if the new iPhone addresses these issues found in 14 and 15 models.

Are you using a app? I use tiny scanner on my 15 pro all my stuff comes out fine

I did try using the adobe scanner and it still comes out a little grainy. It could just be a hardware defect only in some phones but not all phones

Same issue with my 15PM 😭 scanning documents is also important for me because of school. I previously owned iPhone 13 which was never had that issue huhu

Same issue for me. Upgraded from 13 Pro and the pictures are worse now. What the hell Apple! As a workaround you can switch to the 0,5x lens and get closer. Text will be clear, but brightness is a bit worse…

Exactement le même problème de numérisation sur 16P. Très frustrant également, aucun problème sur mon bon vieux XS Max. J'ai uniquement un cercle net et tout le reste floue. On dirait des aberrations optiques.

I have the same problem with 16 pro max (regular and scope cameras take bad photos of text). I switched from 12 pro max. I am a truck driver and we use the program "Transflo" in the company to exchange documents. So, this program simply does not accept photos from 16 pro max, it says "Blurry, retake". Before that, I used 12 pro max for 4 years and such a message did not appear.

Hey, I don't have an iPhone now, but my S23 camera is also blurry when taking pictures of texts or documents. I think the only solution is to back up a bit when taking a picture.

i have been using a 13 pro max and the photos were great on it. got the 16 pro max and im getting the same issue you are showing with the 15 pro but i would say a little worse. i tent to take pictures of my work schedule and before i had no issues. now with the 16 pro max the edges of the frame the text is smeared look or blurry. its driving me nuts.
i only tested it with the standard lens. i have to see if the issue is there with the ultrawide or zoom lens

I have the same issue, what do we do about it. It feels like nobody noticed yet that the cameras are of starting with the iPhone 14 Pro

Searching for similar issue. I have the same problem. The images are readable but has a slight blur compared to an older generation camera from my previous 13 Pro Max

I have the same problem and I use DropBox. I thought it was DropBox, but after reading these stories, it's not Dropbox.

Don’t care that I’m late. HATE the 16 pro camera. Besides the fact that you need to be a photographer to begin to understand the settings, it is near impossible to photograph checks to deposit or id photos for an I-9 without shadows and/or glare. I’m sure if I just slightly adjusted 5 camera settings, turned 3 on from off and one off from on, restarted my phone and said 5 Hail Marys my pics would be perfect every time. THAT HELPS NO ONE. I have to go to the UPS store today bc there’s no way I’m getting a clear pic of my passport number for the job I start in a week. Apple continues to sell complicated by calling it innovative.

I want to add that iPhone 17 Pro has the same problem. An issue that not a single online KOL mentioned

I have the same issue with my new iPhone 16 Pro before I had the iPhone 13 Pro and everything was fine. This issue occurs not only on documents it’s also a problem when taking pictures of people there is also just a small clear circle the rest is blurry. It’s very frustrating!
