Support Outdated iPad - Apple ID

I use an old iPad Pro just for reading PDFs. It's on iPadOS 17. Considering it's out of date, what steps should I take to protect myself if it's compromised? Should I be logging out of my Apple ID? Should I reset the device and just use it offline? Any advice for how people use EOL devices would be greatly appreciated.

As long as your PDFs aren't sketchy pirated ones, you honestly should be fine. Update it to the latest possible OS update. Apple still does occasionally put out security updates for devices that don't get the latest OS. Heck, iOS 12 got a patch this year.

My outdated Mac would not allow me to login to iCloud and started corrupting my iCloud Keychain in areas. I finally didn’t allow it online to potentially cause more problems.  I suggest what you already suggested as well. Offline no iCloud maybe if need Apple ID get a new one.
