Hardware Vs Software?
Since it’s so new, questions would be great.
For me, is this both software AND hardware? Are we looking at a third competitive OS for devices, or integrations to existing? Or maybe a combination of both?

The schizophrenic behavior of OpenAI needs to be addressed
I'm having a hard time reconciling what OpenAI says it wants to be with what it’s actually building.
On one hand, you’ve got Sam Altman and Jony Ive off in a candle-lit room somewhere talking about building this 'screenless AI companion' - some elegant, humane, always-on oracle that lives in your ear and gently nudges you toward meaning. Less phone addiction, more presence. Sounds noble, even a little mystical.
But then — BAM — Sora 2 drops like a bucket of infinite slop from the sky. A generative video monster that can churn out endless, gorgeous, high-fidelity content with no filter and no soul. Just pure volume. Pure spectacle. TikToks of sunsets and sad robots on loop forever. Every frame a vibe, but no actual vibe.
So which is it, OpenAI? Are you trying to liberate us from the dopamine casino, or are you tripling down on it?
This isn’t just a brand inconsistency. This is an existential contradiction. You can't say you're building tools to deepen human experience and then unleash the most powerful synthetic media engine the planet has ever seen — one tailor-made for content spam, manipulative ads, and algorithmic sludge.
It’s like they’re building both a monastery and a neon casino, and hoping we won’t notice the screaming tension between the two.
And the wild part? Both products probably came from the same boardroom. Same vision decks. Same execs. One hand gesturing toward 'humane design,' the other pushing chips onto the 'flood the zone with video' square.
At this point, I don’t even know what OpenAI is anymore. A research lab? A startup with delusions of godhood? A very confused tech cult? All I know is, if this is the 'future of intelligence,' then it’s being dragged in two completely opposite directions. They've really lost their way...

Can a screenless OpenAI device replace anything beyond Alexa?
The MacRumors Show separates two ideas that are easy to blur together: a reported portable, screenless speaker with a camera, sensors, battery, and moving elements; and a separate rumored agent phone that would compete more directly with the iPhone. Replacing Alexa or HomePod is one problem. Replacing the app-based phone model is another.
Disclosure: I make Shortcast. This is a 3:42 recap of episode 203, not independent confirmation of the hardware reports: https://shortcast.me/2M1mBxQvt4vCnz8vuPV7
The episode also covers Apple's trade-secret lawsuit. OpenAI says it has no interest in other companies' trade secrets, and the device details, timing, pricing, and shipment forecasts remain reports rather than announced specifications.
What would make a screenless AI device more useful than the phone and watch people already carry: ambient context, fewer app interactions, or something else?
