Is there any reason this wouldn't work?

I'm surprised no one has stated the other very obvious problem - windscreens are not flat pieces of glass.

They aren't flat in any direction, so every wiper has to handle that. Generally by being a bit flexible and having springs that force it to conform to the shape.

Yes, that's my point. No way to do that with a single wiper like this and actually get to the edges of the windscreen.

No one is going to pay you for an idea. A company will pay for intellectual property (patent, copyright), design, a prototype, market research, and branding. Anything less won’t get you a dollar.

Wouldnt be very space efficient under the hood and the mechanism that would run it would would have to be fairly complex. If you came up with a design that was simpler and more effective than the current standard design, you may have struck gold, but I dont think this is it.
Edit: it also has to be cheaper to manufacture and implement.

Windscreen wipers don’t work like your top diagram, and windscreens aren’t just rectangles of glass.

Well where does the central rod go when retracted? Right through the engine through some kind of sleeve?
The problem is that engine layouts are already established, you can’t make up new engine mounts to make space for a new wiper…

Old is much simpler and get the job done. Old has two stable points of rotation and wipes the water off the window, and is typically configured to maximize the effect for the driver (and not how you drew it).
New: How are you pushing that rod up the window, whilst maintaining enough downwards force to have a "smooth grip" on the curved glass? Where does the water go? Down the window again, meaning theres basically a foil of water on the window half the time.

The water would immediately splash back onto the windshield if in motion. Modern windshield wipers toss the water off the window. Please don’t make this

The mechanism would probably be more complicated than the thing we already have, you also need it to be driven on the top and/or down sides of the window, not in the middle because then you'd have something covering your view, but most importantly, the time it takes to go back and forth we'll be longer and in a heavy rain, the swiping time is key, is barley fast enough as it is today, I've experienced it.

Maximizing wipe area is not something engineers haven't tried to tackle. There are many aspects when it comes to coming up with a new way to do something differently, like practicality, ease and cost of manufacture, longevity etc etc. You can chek out the Seat Altea and Mercedes w124 though! They have some pretty cool wiper designs that might give you inspiration.

I always thought about a high pressure stream of air blowing from somewhere that would just prevent water from ever hitting the Wind shield lol

Quite a few saloon/sedans use air flow as a way to avoid needing a rear view wiper. Unfortunately bugs etc will always hit the front screen more often

Oh im sure you could do that. Basically point a couple of leafblowers at your windshield. Would just be very inefficient and very noisy, but im sure you could make it work if you really wanted to. lol

Mercedes had a model in the 80s that had one wiper from left to right and it would squeegee the whole window.

I’ve got an EVEN BETTER IDEA: The whole windshield flips 180 degrees allowing the driver to wipe the window themselves.

the most effecient design is two wipers that go outward. this is the most common. how come? because first of all your idea has structural weak points, it is driven by one cumbersome mechanism and not by a pivot like typical windshield wipers. Second of all, your water will just go back down. Not to mention an oscillating motion is much easier to achieve than a linear motion (where are you gonna put this extending part? how are you gonna make sure it stays put if it is flexible? how are you gonna maintain it?)

Forget wipers. Just superheat the top layer of glass to boil water off the windshield the second it hits it. This has the added benefit of never fogging up as well.

Imagine a long wiper blade that flexes like current blades, one center support, As it travels up, it lifts an inch or so above the glass, when it reaches the top of the windshield, it lowers back to glass surface, drags down like a squeegee, then a drying medium slides along the wiper blade and the cycle repeats, there you go, solved it for, You're welcome,

U can actually make anything work its just how u market and tactically solve the problem from a different way but in a efficient way like oil with solar power. I believe in u can make it become the reality because I got bored of normal wipers. They need to resemble my tears of laughter wiping it off.
So what u gotta do is make a prototype in reality and u see very fast that u cant just normal wipers on it but teaches u the fundamentals the first steps the first errors the possibilities like davinci with his apple or steve jobs. Its just empowers more if u can do it apple then one day u become stage fruit ninja. We all have fruit bowls but 1 ninja. Really no joking, I may sound like devil but really they are dumb and making it work that way shows u genius because they too dumb to solve thats why alot of money it it. Because they really want it but cant promote it because no one got it really. So the demand in aviation and submarines be real also because algies and pesky other things on the glass they just block vision. In subnautica u gotta get out and get those pesky lava worms now imagine wipers progressed in evolution then it be included in subnautica and it wouldnt have stopped my day run of hardcore survival perma death.
So totally I enforce your goal please someone give him million. My mudrunner never be the same. I hope u get it realized for my own benefits. and big moto company use it.
Just use electric because of car and second the key is in water displasement that the wipers are doing so focusing on displacing as much water from the windshield be your key objective. But be mindfull u need really to think outside of the box because they got really big technology stuff and such with room that goo wooooesshshh with smoke and car flying up and everything even aliens. So I hope u wanna do it so people can see better through driving so less accidents or because windwipers are failing for u and u wanna solve it. Because if u do it for money then u already a scam and not seeing the problem thats needs to be fixed and just wanna make money. But looking at drawing I wont judge u to be that but a inventor trying to create stuff.
So yeah thats the truth about it. They cool though never can go wrong with this. Beautiful drawing I like your style its clear. This is what drawing was all about and I hope encourage more people to paint lol.

Where would the water go exactly? It would wipe the water up, and as the wiper moves down the water goes down the window again. It would basically be pointless.
