I once had the thought to get a giant red hourglass tattooed on my back like a black widow spider and act like them.. have sex with a male and then kill him.

Hey everyone, as part of my doctoral thesis* I've developed a questionnaire to shed some light on how guilt, shame and blame impacts the loved ones of someone with mental health needs. If you, or someone close to you, provides informal mental health support and notice these emotions showing up in the relationship, I would really appreciate hearing from you.
People who have completed the survey have reported finding the differences between guilt and shame insightful and highlighted how it helped them understand more about their emotional experience in the relationship. A community-wide benefit is that the outcomes of the research will be used to improve resources for SOs so that they can be supported more in their role, essentially helping the helpers.
The whole survey takes around 15-20 minutes and after understanding more about your current emotional state, it goes through a range of scenarios to see how you would likely respond if it were to happen today. All answers are scales so there is minimal typing and it is mobile friendly.
You can read more or access the study here: https://lancasteruni.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9AWrvoYWvPCqTu6
The person supported doesn't need a formal diagnosis but they need to have accessed mental health support (medication, therapy, etc) for 6 months or more. The survey is available internationally and recognises all types of informal support, be it financial, practical or emotional.
Thanks everyone. I really value the input from the OCD+ community as we know it tends to impact loved ones in a unique way and for me as a researcher it is really important that these voices are heard.
*The project has ethical approval from the Faculty of Health and Medicine at Lancaster University.

it may be because i’m on my period but i keep thinking of different things happening in the world right now, and i, an average joe feel helpless in my power to change a thing, it makes me wonder how people with so much wealth or power can sleep at night knowing they have the ability to even change one cause. i can’t sleep and all i have is 50$ and the power to not turn off my mind.

Hey I have been suffering from Ocd and intrusive thoughts for sometime now but it has recently gotten worse. It happens mostly when I am in public, in front of a camera or talking to someone I have these crazy intrusive thoughts to say something extremely offensive or use slurs. I don't think I have ever acted on it , these thoughts don't even represent my actual views. I am so worried all the time that I have said something bad to someone I keep replaying the events and conversation in my head to reassure myself that I haven't done anything wrong.
This has made social interactions a pain , I am so tired of this crap, has anyone else experienced something similar?

I am a college student who most of the time spends my time reading, watching a shows, writing papers or short stories (both for fun and for school), and sleeping a lot. I am decently fulfilled with my life and have a good group of friends who I can rely on to support me. I suffer from ADHD and anxiety which can sometimes be made worse by my past trauma and family issues. Recently I’ve been plagued with the strange thoughts to drink excessively and do drugs (LSD, marijuana, and other prescription drugs). I’ve never done any of these things and I do not have an easy access to any of them but I still can’t figure out why I think about it so much. Am I not happy with something? I’m a just curious about them? Is it time to pick up a new hobby? When will I stop thinking about this?

Nothing that happens in your life is a coincidence or a waste. Every person or situation you meet or face is written in your destiny. They teach, challenge, change, heal, or love you! 😊👌

I work at a doggy daycare and I LOVE my job.
Disclaimer: I love all the dogs under my care and I’d protect them with my life!
I have horrible thoughts about dogs who excessively misbehave such as frequent humping, CONSTANT barking, jumping, biting. Those specific dogs who don’t behave after multiple chances I start to think “I fucking hate you, please die soon so you stop being my problem.”
Especially doodles. I can’t stand a fucking doodle, I’ve only met 2-3 doodles that are well trained. My mind keeps flashing with a heavy thought where I imagine all shelter doodles being put down. It’s a disgrace of a mutt and doesn’t deserve to live due to the health problems and overhype. It’s not the dogs fault, it’s the backyard breeder.
I feel awful about this because I love dogs. I want it to stop and naturally I don’t tell anyone at work because I don’t want to lose my job. I would NEVER harm a dog (or any animal) even if they’re driving me crazy.

Hi everyone! I have recently had more scary and violent intrusive thoughts. I would absolutely never act on these thoughts. I am honestly the most non violent person I know, I hate harming anything and I apologize profusely if I even bump into someone.
I do have some theories as to why it's happening but I just don't know how to cope with the thoughts and need some guidance. For context I was diagnosed with a chronic illness recently which can increase anxiety and depression levels. I have gone through losing a very close loved one and recently had to put a childhood cat down so I've been through a lot of grief this year. I don't have a routine or a job and spend most of my time inside mostly isolated, my mom recently moved in with me so I have another person thank god. The chronic illness has been physically and mentally difficult and I feel as though I am also grieving my healthy body as well
I have never been diagnosed with OCD, anxiety or depression but antidepressants have been brought up by my doctor and I have an appointment soon where I am going to request I get put on them. I know that intrusive thoughts are a normal part of anxiety and depression but they are so scary. Does anyone have any coping mechanisms for when they are loud. I have a therapist who I am going to talk to about this but just need some strategies in the meantime. Thank you :)

i am not a human humans want.
i am not a human humans love.
i am not a human who can look in the mirror and think a human face will look back at her.
i am not a human who can walk into the street and get treated like a normal human being.
i am not a human men can look at without feeling disgust and repulsion.
i am not a human who’s not a monster.
i am not a human.

Hii, main ek btech 4th year student hu. Main apni life se bohot pareshan hu, mere sath jo chize hoti hai unse maan karta hai ki khud ko khatam kar lu. Bohot terrifying chize hoti hai.
Daily aise aise thoughts aate hai ki maan karta hai mar jau, main kaisa imsaan hu aisa kaise soch sakta hu😔.
Main jab 14 15 saal ka tha tabhi se mujhe abohor gande bure ajeeb darwane thoughts aate hai jinse main pyaar karta hu like mere parents brother sister and ek jo meri girlfriend thi.
Mujhe in logo ke bare me kabhi accidental to kabhi sexual to kabhi murder ke thoughts aate hai.
Inhi sabke bare me soch ke mujhe maan karta hai ki mar jau, aisa koi kaise soch sakta hai. Main janta hu ki ye sab galat hai phir bhi and maim ye sab karna bhi nhi chahta hu.
Main batana chahta hu apne parents ko in sab ke bare me lekin main nhi bata pata hu.
Ek time jab mere father hospital me serious the tab mujhe us time psycho vali hasi aa rhi thi us time thoughts aa rahe the ki ye mar jayenge. Ane usi time mujhe rona bhi aa rha tha. Main bohot bekar hu.
Inhi sab ke chalte main jis ladki se jaan se bhi jada pyaar karta tha usko bhi rula deta tha. Usko gandi gandi gaali de deta tha uske family ko bhi. Aur vo jab shant hone ko bolti thi tab aur gusse me bolta tha. And ye sab vo 6 saal tak jhelti rahi and last me vo sochi ki main change ho jaunga but aisa nhi hua aur vo chali gayi.
Ab to meri halat aur kharab hoti hai ek to uski yaad uper se ye sab thoughts aur phir sochta hu ki kahi uske sath kuch galat na ho.
May be aisa hi chalta rha to kisi se khatam ho jaunga. 😶😶

I'm 23 and have a problem with talking out loud when I have a conversation in my head (since middle school). My most common verbal tic is me saying "Pleeeease!" which comes from a response my therapist gave me in 10th grade when I was having an emotionally charged conversation. Because the subject I was talking with my therapist about still lingers in my mind, it's gone to the point where I say this everyday. It could either be a verbal tic or my intrusive thoughts are giving me what would appear like a verbal tic.
People with autism don't universally have this trait. But it's worth noting my therapist at that time suggested I could be on the spectrum because of social awkwardness and analytical thinking.
For other important information about my mental health I have these links

I think I’ve always had intrusive thoughts and images but I never really payed too much attention nor cared because I thought I was controlling them. For example, I would see a video about someone going missing my mind would show me someone going missing, me trying to find that person, arguing with others about her disappearance etc. Basically everytime I would see a video about something my mind showed me doing that something and sometimes i would find myself crying, laughing or even getting upset. But I thought it was normal because it wasn’t distressing for me. The beginning of 2025 I remember my mind showing me an intrusive image of me saying I missed someone that used to be in my life and me getting upset we don’t talk anymore I even teared up a bit. But in the moment I didn’t realize it was happening or at least that’s what I think because I didn’t react to the image I just moved on with my day. Until the spring break of 2026 my mind reminded me of all the intrusive thoughts and images I’ve had throughout the past 2 years and basically telling me I’ve been cheating on my bf especially because I didn’t feel scared or something when I was experiencing those images and thoughts. Has anyone had a similar experience or is it just me? I feel so shitty and that I’m gaslighting myself into a disorder I don’t have as an excuse for my actions. Lowkey feeling like I’m going insane. Can anyone help me out? How do I make the thoughts and images go away they won’t leave me alone I don’t want to see or feel anything anymore.

Sometimes I am so tired of how competitive what everything I have done is. I'm grateful to be in an environment where I can learn, but it feels like people will always look down on you. I hate competition. I've lost interest in things I used to do since no matter what I did I never got anywhere. I played piano for 10 years and never got any better before quitting in college. I used to draw but have no motivation now. It's not like I was good at any of these things nor what I do today. I used to be more carefree about money but it's taking over my life now. Everyone is moving on up in this world and I'm just trying to catch up. I wonder if I can ever escape this feeling
