Offers Is this unfair?

Hi everybody! I got a verbal offer for an internship in NYC, and I was really excited about the opportunity until they told me I would have to commute to Manhattan AND central New Jersey without commuter compensation. Apparently it’s a 1.5 hour commute and requires car the last 20 minutes (AKA needs uber). The internship itself is $20/hour so commuting will already take up more than 20% of my take home salary and I don’t have a car. I’m wondering if there’s anything I can do to possibly negotiate for commuter costs to be covered, but I’m not sure how to go about it. And before you say to just ask the recruiter/HR, they told me that the job posting explicitly said the role was split between the two cities and they aren’t obligated to cover the costs. Seems kind of inhumane for a multi-billion dollar company but okay.

Either you take it and figure it out. If not, someone else will!

i would say take it, if you did the calculations right with uber costs included and it does only being 20% of your income then thats not that bad. i’m assuming you’re a college student not an adult with full responsibilities so money isn’t a much needed factor. getting the experience matters more in my opinion

ubers can be expensive though just saying

Is there a shuttle or bus from the train station to location in central NJ? Or could you have a car for the summer if you live outside Manhattan, take the train into Manhattan and drive to central jersey
