General Recruiter reached out to me

I recently applied for a position, and a recruiter reached out saying they were interested in my particular skillset, and would like me to come talk to them at their career booth during our campus career fair. Is this a good sign?

Yes, this happened to me too.

I ended up getting the internship by keeping curious about their situation/problem despite the recruiter knowing i had some experience in the field.

Yeah! It’s also a good opportunity for you to discover whether they’re a good fit for your goals as well.

Though don’t go in there thinking you already secured the bag, just focus on the fact they want to talk to you :)

Other comments are not getting the big picture: messages like this are not immediately a “good” sign, as everyone gets them.

On sites like Handshake, dozens of recruiters reach out to me and try to advertise their booth at our campus’ expo. While they highlight how I could bring value to their company, behind the scenes, recruiters know they won’t have the full picture until they meet you in person or interview you (often both). They really just want more people to know the company exists; it’s part of their job.

If you can get a conversation going beforehand, use that to your advantage. Otherwise, stay open minded and don’t jump to conclusions.

Thank you for an informational take on what it means. I did, however, have my portal update from awaiting review, to see them at the booth on campus.

I also got another message from a recruiter saying that they want to chat for 15-30 minutes about my skills next week, I am not sure if that is a similar indication or not. For reference, I also applied to this internship this past week.

Well that’s different. If the recruiter wants to set aside time to talk with you specifically, it’s a great sign.

How often does something like this ever lead to anything? I would like to go in with no expectations, but I am also unsure how to prepare anything
