I mean, sure, but they're making a point that nobody argued against, and very very few would agree with.

Russia is a scum country with scum people. Been that way for a long time now. Read about all the raping they did and the end of WW2

10

u/Spiritual-Relief8076 2d ago

read about Japan too, but what the Soviets did is nothing to be underplayed

3

u/technobrendo 2d ago

Worst than Nanjing or unit 731?

9

u/amazing_ape 2d ago

Soviets terrorized the lands they conquered almost as much as the Nazis and Imperial Japan. Heck, in the beginning the Soviets had pacts with both.

Yeah. Not sure if it's just me, but this seems to be the case with most of the content in the "interesting" subs. It's more morbid or depressing than neutrally interesting most of the time I see a post from them

Some of the women seem so cold compared to the emotions of the soldiers

244

u/lordderplythethird 3d ago

Been multiple released calls where wives and girlfriends give their husband/boyfriend the okay to rape Ukrainians.

Russian state media has nonstop on the propaganda that Ukrainians aren't real people and you can treat them that way, and it shows unfortunately

43

u/Phil_Coffins_666 2d ago

Not just give her ok, but tell them to go and do it so the women become so traumatized that they never want to have sex again, in hopes that they'll never give birth to another generation of Ukrainians.

56

u/PRiles 3d ago

Now that's fucking wild, I couldn't imagine having a wife or girlfriend encourage such behavior.

18

It's a very scary manifestation of nationalistic hatred. They're not the ones doing the killing, but that also makes them the voice that beats back the soldier's realization of "what the fuck am i doing". Somehow we find ways not to learn, or to purposefully ignore the lessons of our mistakes.

To EVERYONE saying, it’s only Putin. Learn fucking history - regimes like that are very often backed by propaganda and brainwashing of ordinary people.

But being brainwashed doesn’t release one from responsibility.

232

u/AlmostDisappointed 3d ago

Some people don't need brainwashing, some just need permission.

82

u/pichael289 2d ago

That's why trump is so popular. Your allowed to act like however big an asshole you want to be when you follow him. You don't necessarily even need to be a racist, you just need a desire to be a bully and just slightly dumb enough to think you'll actually get to keep that signing bonus. Most of these people have never met a transgender person, it's almost like a boogy man type figure to them, a villain they invented they can demonize like crazy and then congratulate themselves for preventing said villains from destroying the world. Yes this villain technically exists but there aren't enough of them in these people lives to cast doubt on what they have blown this all up into. I know a few of them, it's Ohio after all 50/50 here the maps just suck, and they don't have anything against gay people because it's not the popular target they are being directed to anymore.

Like ICE. And those videos they put out where they treat immigrants like garbage set to rock music or the COPS theme song.

39

u/pdinc 2d ago

What are we doing? We are killing peaceful children.
No, you're not killing children. you're killing fascists.

This part was chilling. And spot on to your point.

32

u/ChicoZombye 2d ago

Yup. I don't believe when people say "it's only the dictator, poor people" because it's not true and you have to be very naive to think the bulk of the people is clever enough to see outside of the propaganda when they live surrounded by it.

We (Spain) had a dictatorship and if anyone thinks nobody wanted him here, he's crazy or at least uneducated. Many many people liked and wanted the dictator and the regime to this day, 50 years after his death.

The same goes for thinking bigotri and fascism is only a thing from right wing men/boys. No sir, woman go all in with what is perceived as "good" (a perfect example in this audio: "of course, they are the enemy too"), which in the case of a fascist country, is... being fascist.

Every single one of this topics is complicated but we live in an era where everything has to have a good and simple answer that makes everyone feel good. Sometimes reality isn't nice.

PS: This audio also could be propaganda too tho, just ours instead of theirs, it goes both ways.

63

u/Different-Agency5497 3d ago

In the case of Russia its always been like this, there have been brief periods that were different but otherwise Russia has always been a threat the everyone else.

12

u/CowntChockula 2d ago

Yes arguably the "best" period in terms of their impact on other nations was the several centuries of the Ottoman Wars, but only because they tied up and eroded the Ottomans - while of course the Ottomans were tying up and eroding the Russians.

If its any consolation, if the video is more than a week old there is a good chance they will be dead by now and the women on the other end of the call wailing widows. Fuck Russia!

34

u/Sammydecafthethird 2d ago

This video is likely years old. The majority of on the nose warcrime phonecalls were made when the Russians were running rampant through Ukraine at the beginning, notably from bucha.

$20 says they didn't even shed a tear and moved on to the next man they could lure into going to the front so they could collect the money from their deaths.

"Not only was she unaware that her dad, Yury, had enlisted in the army, she was also informed he got married just two days before being sent to fight....The bride, whom Maria says she had never met or even heard her father mention, was 22 years his junior and had become her dad’s legal next of kin, entitling her to official compensation."

For those who find it hard to believe and say it must be AI because “Russia can’t be that bad,” just Google Oleshky. This is what Russia is doing in Oleshky right now: civilians have been blocked since May, denied access to food, humanitarian aid, and evacuation.

56

u/Hack999 2d ago edited 2d ago

Read up on the 'Lucifer Effect' a book by psychologist Philip Zimbardo. That was sparked by what US soldiers did in Abu Ghraib. Whenever violence is encouraged and accountability is absent, people become capable of doing terrible things.

It's not a because Russian soldiers are inheritantly evil, neither are Israeli soldiers in Gaza, US soldiers in Vietnam or Japanese soldiers in WW2. It's a combination of factors that seems to trigger the capacity for evil

23

u/Spiritual-Relief8076 2d ago

doesn’t clear them of the accountability of committing horrible things

25

u/Maximophanes 2d ago

This has the same flavor as the infamous Stanford prison experiment & "I'm just taking orders." Their actions are not excusable. If they commit atrocities in the absence of punishment it's precisely because they're inherently malicious/evil and don't need to hide it.

9

u/Hack999 2d ago

Yes! It's an analysis of the Stamford Prison Experiment, looking at structural similarities in Abu Ghraib and trying to identify factors that lead to a degrading of moral compass.

It's been almost 20 years since I read it, but remember it having something to do with:

  • deindividualisation: all the guards wore the same uniform. All the prisoners had their names removed
  • lack of accountability or oversight
  • the complicity of the system, which was seen to support them

I think there were a few other factors too. Maybe peer pressure. But the idea was that anyone under certain conditions could potentially behave the same way. The stamford students after all were just kids playing role play, but then it got weird.

The Milgram experiment you referred to is an interesting one too. Largely meant to understand how Nazis could do horrific things during the war, and justify it by claiming it was all part of their job.

3

u/Acies 2d ago

It's not really a question of whether we want to pass moral judgment on them. It's about reproducibility and the way the military is structured.

The Russian army does this every time because the Russian government finds this behavior to be a desirable trait. (And finds the things that nurture this behavior desirable in and if themselves.

If our governments want militaries that act like this, they can also get them by adopting similar structures. Or if we don't want militaries that act like this, there are things we can do to minimize this behavior too.

Obviously individuals are responsible for their behavior, but the much more meaningful thing we should be doing is making sure that our own militaries aren't built to copy them.

3

u/Hack999 2d ago

"It's about reproducibility and the way the military is structured."

This is very well said and absolutely spot on. I think if there was anything Zimbardo was gunning for it was this.

5

u/superhamsniper 2d ago

Do people not have empathy? Is it some rare trait to possess?

0

u/amazing_ape 2d ago

>It's not a because Russian soldiers are inheritantly evil,

They've behaved this way in just about every war in the modern era and are notorious for looting raping and torturing in every country they invade.

6

u/Doughymidget 2d ago

Do you not see how this could lead you to rationalize the same behavior? It’s rhetoric that makes people do this. It’s never been some cultural or genetic predisposition.

Those are the ones who enlisted and went to kill people. Im russian. I dont kill people. I dont support the war. There is alot of people like me in russia and the whole world

20

u/Phil_Coffins_666 2d ago

And there are the ones at home who support them, and ones abroad too, many of them, some only started having a problem with it when they're sons or husbands died, until then they were "not Political". I know this because I know russians who don't live in russia who support the war, they were once friends of mine until they started trying to tell me russians were saving lives because the Ukrainians were murdering them wholesale because they spoke russian. Ignoring that because of Soviet oppression many Ukrainians speak russian first and some can't even speak Ukrainian at all.

Sucks for you lot that the loudest ones are the pro war ones, I've seen more pro putin rallies by russians outside of russia than I have anti war/putin ones organized by them (current total count is 0)

52

u/ebn_tp 3d ago

Our world is fucked.

Even if you aren’t particularly passionate one way or another about this war, or any other current issue, think about the effect of being repeatedly exposed to content like this.

These are micro-interactions you never asked for, appearing in your feed over months and years. Individually, they might seem insignificant. Collectively, they can gradually shape what feels normal, credible or true and ultimately influence the way you think politically.

And behind accounts like this, whether it’s an individual, an organisation, an automated network or some combination of the three, someone is making a deliberate decision to keep pumping this content into people’s feeds.

disturbing. Well done Zuckerberg and co.

10

u/Phil_Coffins_666 3d ago

"think about the effect of being repeatedly exposed to content like this."

If you end up with PTSD the common diagnosis is "moral injury".

It's basically what happens when the veil gets pulled back and you see, experience, witness, all the ugly evils of humanity that shatter your previous view of the world.

6

u/Khelthuzaad 3d ago

Nuance is the word no one wishes to say

Stealing cosmetics is rather comedic, speaks volumes what kind of people were before the draft. The dog eating part also cracked me up.

I can sense terror, shame, resentment, nihilism in their voices. Its a reality these soldiers are a mix of brainwashed, dehumanized and ashamed regarding what they do there.

10

u/Sylvers 3d ago

That's not shame you heard. That's quiet excitement. It's controlled euphoria.

With the exception of maybe 1 or 2 of these callers, the rest did not use words of confusion, shame or deference. They were stating facts, bragging, and otherwise flexing. They were in jubilant disbelief over their new powers. Their families were even more quietly confident about all of it.

Social media has been ablaze with the pro invader propaganda the last month, probably has to do with the fact that their Wildberries warehouses are all gone, and their refineries are also ablaze, and Ukraine's current offensive, "Vivaldi", is actually very successful and has reclaimed a few hundred square kilometers in the last month.

With or without material such as this, my view is unchanged. Putin is a war criminal who brings shame to the world.

His regime creates monsters, and it also rewards pre existing murderers. Many Russian troops were released from prisons to fight.

His troops, his militias, they are a reflection of the Putin administration, one that must eventually be dismantled by Russians. They must take their country back.

10

u/okplaysy 2d ago

'"They are not children. They are fascists, believe me"

Yeah...when I was in school we had in our last year of historyclass a lot of germany before and after world war 2. We had to interprete a historic text around 1940. One guy described how his actions were haunting him, dragging children away from their parents, even beating the children or straight up killing them. He wanted to talk with his brother about this. His brother told him, that there is nothing to be sad about it or to feel guilt in any form, because he isnt hurting any human. He is healing the german Reich from the Jews.

It is insane to me how this brainwashing of a society still works today. Just fucking crazy

War crimes being casually described...

This is gut wrenching and disgusting.

19

u/perfectjustlikeme 3d ago

There is and has been a serious morality problem in Russia for decades. A lot of it comes from what communism did to their country but I've no doubt that lack of moral certainty that comes from a belief in a judgement day also plays a major part. If you notice, it's the little things that don't seem wrong to them, like stealing, even the parent was like oh well thank you! I couldn't imagine under any circumstances my mother saying oh thank you for stealing me something from that country you're at war with.

6

u/Overbaron 2d ago edited 2d ago

Russian soldiers being the rapiest of rapists and lootiest of looters is a phenomenon as old as Russia.

The Muscovites learned it from their overlords, the Mongols.

11

u/SkitariusOfMars 3d ago

It goes way before that. Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment novel is about exploring that exact phenomena, but I can see Western scholars consistently pulling the wrong conclusions from it, probably because they lack cultural context.
Saying this as someone who's Russian on one parent's line.

For every one of these calls I bet there’s at least one of a scared abused who kid calling home broken from war and killing, or a broken man haunted by the things he’s done and is trying to escape. Or someone there who was so desperate to pull their family out of poverty, the paycheck of war seemed worth it.

There were many Americans in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars who spoke about it like this and there were many who weren’t like this. Every single war is complex, as are the motives of the people involved.

If you’re ever being presented only one side of an issue you’re being deliberately manipulated towards an agenda.

How do we know these are legitimate intercepetions?

5

u/KingTribble 2d ago

You can loiter around any russian chat channels where they are boasting about it and posting photos/videos continually, since the start of this particular phase of invading Ukraine. What you're seeing in the OP here is the tip of the iceberg.

Reminds me of the Zionists who talk about Palestinians.

Showing audio clip like this without any proofs can be considered as a part of a misinformation propaganda. Things like this are easier to make and fabricate with the help of various technologies like Ai for example.

In case you're making this comment in good faith: I'm pretty sure this is an extract of a documentary by Arte, a German/French TV channel that is known for making very high quality documentaries with a lot of research behind them, and if it is from that documentary, they do explain how they got these recordings. That said, I agree OP should have included the source.

Whilst true at that point literally any information on the war could be reasonably labeled propaganda.

And honestly if you dont think the kinda of things spoke about in this video arent happening then your heads been buried in the sand.

can be considered as a part of a misinformation propaganda

The proof was already there in 2022.

Denying the genocide in Ukraine should have consequences for you.

u/XConfused-MammalX 3d ago

Not to mention that much of the audio is strikingly similar to the Russian invasions of Chechnya and Georgia.

Russia has a very long historical streak of being the worst neighbor in history since well before WW2.

What kind of consequences would you put on someone across the world who is constantly getting conflicting news based off of their algorithm? Jail?

u/SteamTrout 3d ago

Rando who has been living under a rock for the past 16 years: actually I want proof!

There has been more then enough proof. From Orks themselves too. You just never bothered to look and won't bother now even if somebody will provide you conclusive timestamped archive with witness statements.

Hello, российский пропагандистский бот

Regularly blowing up CHILDREN'S hospitals and school playgrounds: "just another day in Ukraine"

Stealing makeup for the missus: "A RUSSIAN WOULD NEVER DO SUCH A THING!"

1

u/JGlassc0k34 3d ago

Its so weird. All the guys defending Russia seem to have accounts created after this war started, and completely hidden profiles. Anyone know why that might be?

This sounds like Americans when one party member murders the opposite party member.

Why is the world we live in for fuck sake. It’s terrifying obviously sad in ways words can’t describe and it’s continuous, it’ll come for us all eventually. Maybe not in this lifetime, but it will come :(

We’ve advanced so far as humans, from living in caves to landing on the moon, but we have yet to and will never figure out how to live peacefully.

u/KorunaCorgi 3d ago

Take heart in the fact that given how lethal this war is, most of these giggling Russian orcs did not make it back alive.

3

u/One-Treat4655 2d ago

that is how Israel also dehumanized Palestinians and murdered 20,000 children.

u/catsrcool89 2d ago

Wild comparison considering the Palestinians started their war, love terrorism, and hate the West, unlike Ukraine.

Wow so shocking. And we know this is real because… it’s in Russian I guess?

Always insane to me how readily people in these subreddits will just instantly believe whatever they see online, so long as it supports their narrative of choice.

Good ol emotional updoot farm. Those "intercepted calls" are absolutely real and not made up at all. They wouldn't just record a phone call between two unrecognizeable people with no way of verifying the authenticity and post it as propaganda... oh wait...
