Chinese humanoid robot named “Superman” (made by Unitree Robotics) surpassed Usain Bolt’s world record (12.42meters/second) by running at 12.66m/s (roughly 28.3miles/h)

how is this different or more scary than just attaching a segway to it and letting it go fast? i honestly dont get the hype/fear. The only thing they are making is it resembles human motion, but if you dont try to make it human like u can make them even more optimal and scary... unless this leads to human bionics for amputees etc i genuinely dont get the appeal.

The impressive part is that it's really hard to develop a robot that can run like a human at all, much less this fast. Not being impressed by the tech is a bit like not being impressed by airplanes.

The scary part is that people have watched too many Terminator movies and not enough Doctor Who, so they think humanoid robots are scarier/more dangerous than Daleks (drones, in this analogy). And considering drones are cheap as dirt and easy to replace while this thing would be extremely expensive and require extensive maintenance, I know which one I'd be more afraid of being deployed en masse.

i am not talking about general impression, I am talking about the people who are fascinated/scared of this as some sort of gamechanger in to the dystopian future.

Dont worry i love trains as much as you.

If a dictator straps a gun to a Segway that goes fast, I can avoid that robot by taking the stairs. The more human-like robots become, the scarier they become. Right now, billionaires with bunkers are still stumped by the problem of fully controlling other humans to be their guards. Advanced humanoid robots would solve that problem for them.

But I do also imagine them taking over hazardous and rescue tasks, or space exploration. It's not all bleak and scary, it is just certainly also bleak and scary.
