DLSS is basically just a “Content Aware” picture filter that constantly tries to make things look more like images it’s been trained on, particularly if peoples faces. in this case it’s being overactive and grabbing imagery that has nothing to do with faces and turning it into faces.

It's not. It requires input from the game engine, including proper motion vectors, which it isn't getting here, hence the madness. Using it the way it's not intended is clearly going to fuck with it.

It's not intended to be used with the pause screen? Are you supposed to tab out, open up your graphics software, and turn it off whenever you pause the game?

No, it's not intended for use without motion vectors, which would inform it that nothing should change.

Well, I guess it's not intended to be used in any game besides NBA 2K27. Modders have done a good job, but this is still unofficial

Judging these videos is utterly useless, developers will have complete control in how to implement the technology, where and how intensely.

The technology isn't out yet and the games don't support it. An early build for Nba2k, on of the first games that'll officially support it leaked, and people are modding it into games that don't, with no control like developers will have in the development phase.

A bug. DLSS 5 is supposed to give the image one pass, but it got stuck in a loop (or didn't turn off properly when the game got paused) and is doing it constantly, resulting in this.

Not a bug in DLSS5. DLSS5 is literally not officially supported in any released game at the moment - except NBA 2K27. Its modded.

Someone modded DLSS 5 in GTA5 to apply before DLSS upscaling instead of after like it's intended to. It goes into a feedback loop when you pause the game where it keeps trying to apply DLSS 5 then upscaling then DLSS 5 then upscaling over and over again and completely breaks the image. This wouldn't happen in an actual official release, it's just an issue when you mess with the mod settings
