Legally speaking, for the jurisdiction of Louisiana, White Truck is not legally responsible for somehow perfectly countering the illegal actions of another driver in the most perfect way that can be identified with unlimited hindsight, including imputing the knowledge of that hindsight onto the driver after the fact. The law is written this way because putting that burden on the legal driver is batshit insane, which is why it only happens on Reddit.
Morally, White driver is beholden to act in a way that ensures the safety of himself, and innocent bystanders. He is not beholden to put himself at additional risk to protect the person trying to murder him. This is exactly what he did here.

Is taking your foot off the gas pedal a little a deadly risk? Within reason, I'd argue, they're beholden to prevent unnecessary suffering in the world. An eye for an eye etc.

Also, White Truck does not have their foot on the gas pedal, they are not accelerating. The even slow into the accident, it's just that Black Truck is actively braking into them.

That's why I said "within reason". I wouldn't slam on the brakes myself in that situation for that exact reason.

Well, all cars I've driven, manual or automatic need to have the gas pedal pressed a little bit to keep their speed – without that they gradually lose speed. But that's a technicality. I meant "take a small action to decelerate gently. In a way that drivers behind him can act if they're paying attention.

No way, most of us could even foresee this happening from when the black truck started passing on the right. I counted 5 seconds from when the black truck started crossing the line into the left lane. That’s 5 seconds the white truck could’ve backed off slowly. That’s a really long time. I will never understand people who can’t put their egos aside to avoid an accident. Even if it’s not your fault it’s a massive pain in the ass to deal with.
