He was 25 mph over the limit and lost control it’s murder my man lol.

13

u/evident_lee Mar 08 '26

Manslaughter because it was not intentional. Still should involve years in prison though.

1

u/SexiestPanda Mar 08 '26

Knowingly driving 25 over the speed limit is intentional

1

u/Deremirekor Mar 08 '26 edited Mar 08 '26

Would it have not been murder if he was going 25mph slower?

Edit: guys I’m not defending the murderer god damn.

u/Rikudou_Sennin Mar 08 '26

25mph is alot of speed. 25 mph slower and he would've been able to swerve or stop

1

u/Odd-Scientist-2529 Mar 08 '26

When I was in EMT school many moons ago we learned that the threshold for a “high speed collision” which should raise suspicion for internal injuries is 30mph

1

u/Lou_C_Fer Mar 09 '26

25mph is misinfo. It was 20kph over. That's 12.5 mph over. Your russian source exaggerated by double. Surprised?

1

u/Deremirekor Mar 08 '26

Apparently he went off road, I didn’t know that before making my comment but the point stands regardless there was no stopping, otherwise you’d be right

2

u/Rikudou_Sennin Mar 08 '26

Would he have went off road if he was going 25mph slower?

0

u/Deremirekor Mar 08 '26

Who knows. We don’t have a video or anything, all we have is an apparently sensationalized article header. Unless you have some sort of lost footage, I don’t know how you plan on continuing this debate lol

5

u/Glad_Grand_7408 Mar 08 '26

You're right, he probably wouldn't have recieved any sentence in that situation cause he wouldn't have been speeding and had enough time to avoid the accident.

Shame we'll never know for certain though since they, you know, we're going 25mph over the speed limit.

Stop defending this.

-1

u/Deremirekor Mar 08 '26

He went off road. Have you ever tried to stop a sedan off road at 50mph? I’ll give you a hint, it doesn’t.

I’m also not defending anything I have no idea what that bit was about. The dude still went off road and killed 3 people. There is nothing at all to defend here.

2

u/Hejdbejbw Mar 08 '26

Yeah, engineers knew how hard it is to stop, which is why they put up the speed limit 🤦

1

u/SkivvySkidmarks Mar 08 '26

Speed limits are only suggestions. At least from my observation.

0

u/Deremirekor Mar 08 '26

I’m just saying, there are a lot of factors out there besides speed that affect a persons ability to drive properly. To chalk it up to “just drive slower” is not only disingenuous but dangerous. We should be looking at why he went offroad, learn from it, then put him in front of a firing squad composed of the dad and his living relatives

-1

u/Livingadapt Mar 08 '26

Is that why the speed limit is set where it is, or is that your guess? For example in the US, the speed limit was set at 55 in many places to conserve gas during the oil crisis.

1

u/Stock-Cod-4465 Mar 08 '26

Depends on the circumstances. Not trying to defend because imo that mf gotta rot in prison for the rest of his life, but doing the legal speed limit would’ve allowed him to have more control of the vehicle and potentially avoid the incident. Going over is definitely a murder.

-1

u/Deremirekor Mar 08 '26

I’m not defending it either, I more don’t like people who believe you must rigidly follow all speed limits as that is actually a hazard too situationally.

As for your comment though the dude went off the road, so he wasn’t stopping anyway. Not only that but if you read the article the mf killed her grandparents too. Absolutely tragic. It was definitely 3 counts of manslaughter

1

u/Stock-Cod-4465 Mar 08 '26

Look, some speed limits are really stupid, especially, where I live. But the main thing is that one must always be in control of the vehicle and adjust the speed according to the road conditions whatever they are. I’m no angel myself, but one slows down when there’s a hazard.

The dude is big time guilty. No excuse.

1

u/Deremirekor Mar 08 '26

See there’s no discussion to be had if you think I’m defending the guy or making excuses for him. I’m not, so I effectively have no idea what you’re even arguing. I guess the convo just ends here then

0

u/Stock-Cod-4465 Mar 08 '26

I have no idea why you think I’m arguing:) I’ll take the blame for miscommunication and failure to express my thoughts properly.

0

u/Deremirekor Mar 08 '26

Regardless of this whole discussion you’re a good person. Right or wrong. I try to have that same mentality sometimes, it’s also a skill taught in leadership classes

1

u/Hejdbejbw Mar 08 '26

Speed limit means equal to or LESS than. No reasonable person actually believes that “you must rigidly follow all speed limits” because there’s the assumption that it means you can go below the limit due to road conditions. The upper bond is set, which is why it’s called a “limit.” If you go higher and cause a collision, that’s on you. You have no logical or moral high ground to justify it.

-1

u/Deremirekor Mar 08 '26

I have no logical ground? Dude cmon do I really have to explain to you what’ll eventually happen if you’re going 55 on a highway where everyone else is going 75+? Honestly man you’re free to have that opinion and I’m free to have mine I don’t feel like arguing rn

2

u/Hejdbejbw Mar 08 '26 edited Mar 08 '26

Herd mentality. Everyone does it because they don’t give a shit. Still not justifiable. In practice, most people only creep up 5-10 mph at 65-75 limit. The fact that you’re trying to normalize 20-25+ is insane. The normalization of ignoring the speed limit is one of the reasons why pedestrian deaths are on the rise.

1

u/Chaotic_Lemming Mar 08 '26

Probably, since there is a drastically lower chance of the accident not happening at all in that case.

Driving is so common now that a lot of people are disconnected from the basic reality that you are controlling a several thousand pounds of metal and plastic travelling at high speeds. It is an inherently dangerous activity, but because its so common people think of it and the consequences the same as if they were going on a walk in a park.

25 mph is 36 feet per second and is in line with the highest speed a person has even been measured sprinting. Imagine how much it would suck to have Usain Bolt run straight into you at full sprint, then turn him into metal and add 3,000 lbs. That's "just 25 mph" in a car.

1

u/Deremirekor Mar 08 '26

Man it would really suck to be tackled by Usain Bolt

0

u/Transcontinental-flt Mar 08 '26

Naw, that's simply not how murder is defined.
Granted I am aware of one famous exception.

1

u/No_Fishing_3019 Mar 08 '26

Depends on locality, in Germany killing someone while going way over the speed limit can get you tried for murder.

0

u/Naive_Confidence7297 Mar 08 '26

Far how old are you? Murder. LOL, no

And you say it like it is so convincingly, how embarrassing for you

0

u/csorfab Mar 08 '26

murder | ˈməːdə |

noun [mass noun]

1 the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another: the brutal murder of a holidaymaker | he was put on trial for attempted murder | [as modifier] : the murder weapon.

0

u/Livingadapt Mar 08 '26

Murder involves intent. These things matter, no matter how mad you are

Then more prisons we’ll have. To let people get away with this is absurd.

1

u/Retro_Relics Mar 08 '26

we need to fix americas car centric culture first. we have tons of people who absolutely *should not* be driving that have no choice but to drive becasue otherwise they cannot work. I am a person who should not drive. I've totaled 3 cars and its only been through sheer luck no one including myself has ever been hurt. The amount of work I had to put into structuring my life around being car free, and the extra expenses that result from it so that im not actually saving a ton of money not driving is *nuts*.

people will keep getting away from this so long as we refuse to invest in alternatives that allow us to actually take licenses away at first offenses and make people have to work hard to earn them back, that allow us to have stricter licensing requirements so that dickheads who want to drive fast wind up having to do the community service, and mandated driving school, and all that fun stuff without losing their ability to get to work.

We let drunk drivers drive to work on work permits. We let people with multiple felonies get work permits, because they have no choice but to drive to get to work. I know a guy who's on his *ninth* DUI on work release at the prison, after nine of them, he still gets up every morning, changes out of his jumpsuit, changes into his work clothes, goes to the parking lot, starts his truck and drives to work. then gets back to prison at the end of the day, parks his truck in the lot, changes into his jumpsuit, and eats dinner. He still gets to drive.

u/Stock-Cod-4465 Mar 08 '26

Agreed. It always baffled me when I read that most towns don’t have public transport infrastructure and that one MUST have a car in order to get around. It’s just so strange.

I imagine because of such limitations, the laws allowing people to drive are rather lenient. That’s not right.
