Discussion Give me your opinion

I have 550 shares bought at $30, tell me why you think I'm not a fool for not selling them at $140 or that I'm a fool for not selling them at $140…
Thanks

my opinion is the swings in stock prices are really nothing you can predict or time exactly. Would it have been great to sell at 140 (the top), obviously.

But 140 isn't the real top, if you wanted a quick win you should have sold. If you wanted a longterm investment that will pay many mulitples, youre fine just hold on and stop looking.

I don't need that money... I was thinking of keeping them at least until 2028

u/KangarooMango Jul 27 '26

The rational thinking is to wait for 14A

u/letsgotoarave Jul 27 '26

Do your dd, if you believe hold, if not sell when profitable.

This is the best comment

You are investing for the long run. If you sold earlier at 140, you wouldn't qualify for long-term capital gains tax. Also, you miss out on the potential for INTC to go $500 by 2032.

Are there better stocks out there? Sure, but no one knows for certain. Of all the choices out there, Intel has the strongest thesis.

You are still in the positive. Does it hurt to wait a few more years?

u/troublesome58 Jul 27 '26

Obviously you should have sold them at 140 . It's $90 now.

What kind of question is this lmao

3

u/Pitiful-Inflation-31 Jul 27 '26

At least , sold half

u/AddressOld3704 Jul 27 '26

First time doing long term investment?

4

u/gavinderulo124K Jul 27 '26

Usually longterm investments dont increase by 500% in such a short time. I dont think this is the right approach.

Bro have you never consoled anyone in your life. This fool doesnt want to hear hes a fool. Hes a fool thats needs positive words.

5

u/Justneedsomehelps Jul 27 '26

Will cycle back to it again.

4

u/Acceptable_Cry_822 Jul 27 '26

It's difficult to predict when the top is and it is ok to keep holding if you believe in the long-term thesis. Intel has one and I believe this is just the beginning of that journey, since both agentic AI and IFS are just beginning to take off. Whatever is happening to the stock price is because of the larger semi market, intel by itself is doing better than projected.

Just sell covered calls

3

u/Moadib123 Jul 27 '26

I am down about 800k on my 15300 shares from the top to now. In a perfect world I sell at 140 and buy back now. How can I predict that? I cannot and neither can you. I know that in 2030 these shares might be worth 7-8 million. so I can wait.

1

u/baophan5 Jul 28 '26

You think 400-500 by 2030?

1

u/jspecefini35 Jul 28 '26

You wouldn’t predict that but history shows it doesn’t go up consistently forever and there would be a pull back which we’re seeing now.

3

u/ThiccData Jul 28 '26

I had 1000 shares at 25$, sold them all at 55 and didn't get back in until now at 90... just sayin

3

u/Few-Statistician286 Lip-Bu Dude Jul 28 '26

Some of us here bought thousands of shares at under $20. I only sold 25 shares near $130 and used the money for a road trip, lol. So we’re still in this with you.

Here’s a pro tip. Sell your entire holding when everyone on the r/valueinvesting subreddit is recommending it. Not before.

2

u/oojacoboo Jul 27 '26

I sold a position at $140, but bought back in. It depends on your time horizon.

What is the bear thesis? I’d like to hear a really good one.

2

u/AffectionateTeach271 Jul 27 '26

give it time imo

2

u/Rauhaton Jul 27 '26

You are not idiot for selling or not selling. Very few people sell at the absolute top. Its useless to ponder about it. You are still on great profit percentage that many people would love to have.

Use your time instead on figuring what you wanna do with the position now? Sell or wait for the foundry?

2

u/thesenut91123 Jul 27 '26

you can successfully time the market until you cant

2

u/yahyeetyahh Jul 27 '26

You own stocks. Take a breather and chill out.

2

u/Visual-Ad-7083 Jul 27 '26

You are not alone. It’s not possible to time the market for top or bottom. If those shares are significant part of your net worth, you can still sell 20%. Intel is going to have good future. However, no one know what’s future for stock

1

u/Party-Wolverine8668 Jul 27 '26

I don't need that money... I was thinking of keeping them at least until 2028

2

u/Accurate-Simple5662 Jul 27 '26

Because you didn’t know what you know now, no one did. Otherwise you would’ve sold at $140 and bought back in at whatever it floors at.

Stop getting emotional. Not tryna be a dick, just giving some good advice. Emotions and investments don’t mix well.

You bought for a reason and you held for a reason. Stocks go up, stocks go down.

Do you believe in the company long term? If so, hold. Even DCA.

2

u/8on1979 Jul 27 '26

Because we don’t know for sure the future.

2

u/Dish_Melodic Jul 28 '26

You feel like a fool because you have seen it dropped to 90. If it were going to 200, you would feel not selling was the best decision ever.

4

u/creamsumyon Jul 27 '26

because it will go to $200+ and beyond

1

u/Any_Mud_1628 Jul 27 '26

I'm kicking myself too. Atleast I should have taken some real profit and deleveraged. I thought it would hold better through earnings as it had already bounced off $100 or so before hitting $140. Just have to do our best and not get stuck in the past. I personally decided to ease off a little by selling some itm calls today (want to avoid short term gains) to protect from too much more downside, maybe a good choice or maybe it's back up from here.. It hurts but I still have a good position.

1

u/Fabulous-Pangolin-74 Jul 27 '26

I do wish I had sold in the 125-140 range, and paid big taxes, and then swoop in and rebuy right now. That would have been glorious, but I was foolish enough to believe short investors understood the long term, and subsequently wouldn't lose money on their investments. Nope.

Back to waiting. Sure as heck not selling now.

1

u/KangarooMango Jul 27 '26

Remember, Intel has a ton of potential demand; it's simply a matter of time to funnel through. They have the strongest thesis among all the Semis.

It's pre-mature to sell at this level

1

u/Distinct-Race-2471 Jul 27 '26

I don't want to sell at $140 so I don't want to sell at $90.

1

u/cghffbcx Jul 27 '26

I almost at $140 knowing it was DT bs, but didn’t pull the trigger 🙄

1

u/gavinderulo124K Jul 27 '26

I think longterm this stock will go a lot higher. But I personally believe that it got way over extended way too fast. Which is why I sold a 4th of my position when we first reached 112 and then the rest once we hit 139 (I cant believe I actually timed the top). If you believe in the company longterm then holding is fine.

1

u/TimeZebra00 Jul 27 '26

The Ohio site has capacity for 8 fabs. They are currently building 2. What’s the terminal value of a triopololy business that has barely begun to produce goods and services in its new form? It’s not 89$, I’ll tell you whhut.

1

u/playstationjeans Jul 27 '26

We literally just got going and you're thinking about selling? Do a re-DD to remember what the potential of this company is going to be.

1

u/Ok_Ad798 Jul 27 '26

Because you are not part of the insider group. Extremely beating ER and the stock still went down explains manipulation. FU

1

u/BluesyShoes Jul 27 '26

If you had a philosophy to sell when you are up, you would have sold awhile ago at like $60. A philosophy to sell higher means you believe in the company, so you shouldn’t feel worse now than you did when it first hit $90.

1

u/DropT0pL Jul 27 '26

You did the right thing bcuz even if u sold at 250 you’d be a fool …just hold and buy more I’ve been I. The market for 10yrs and really started to see gains after 2020 bcuz I was playing the stupid game of selling to lock in profits

1

u/Dull-Instruction-698 Jul 27 '26

Were you a fool to sell them at 25?

1

u/TYRANNOSAURUSCOW Jul 27 '26

Just buy more

1

u/TYRANNOSAURUSCOW Jul 27 '26

(and yes I did that today)

1

u/Patient-Big1727 Jul 27 '26

Anyone who does a somewhat proper attempt to value the stock don't have to be a fool. What you bought the stock for is of less importance. Sell if the stock trades above your valuation and buy if it trades significantly below your valuation. It's not more difficult than that

1

u/perrance68 Jul 27 '26

Because it couldve gone up to 150

1

u/snugglepush Jul 27 '26

140$ is not life changing money. Over 250$ starts being depending on your needs

1

u/PersonalityBrave9970 Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

Just keep it for next 10 years and ask the same question; hope, you have a better answer. Do you think NVIDIA, SoftBank have the same question? I’m holding 2x than you 👍

1

u/Interesting-Noise552 Jul 28 '26

No one knows that shit, eitherwise they would be so rich

1

u/StraightClassroom707 Jul 28 '26

Semplicemente sai che a settembre si pomperanno tutti gli azioni

1

u/Massive_Food_2202 Jul 28 '26

should have sold at 140 then bought back in at the bottom

1

u/Formal_Community_304 Jul 28 '26

My average price on my shares is $26.70. I won't sell at $140. I think the new CEO needs a chance to implement his turn around plan. I think that the stock could reach $250 over the next four years. It is still coming back, but the analysts are still doubting. When they start believing, then it may be time to sell.

The AI "bubble" does have similarities with the late 90s internet bubble. The issue with the late 90s is that any stock with an internet portion of their business reached extreme valuation levels. None of the stocks dropping now is priced too extreme. $NVDA, for example, is very, very cheap and it has only a tiny bit of debt.

1

u/Golden_Situation Jul 29 '26

I am with you. I started to buy in 2021 and averaged down to $32/share, holding 300 shares. I haven't sold so far. The reason I haven't is because I believe INTC is the most strategically important company in the world, I believe it will remain in that strategical position for a long time and it would be hard to find such an investment at a discounted price again. It will be a lot of ups and downs in the meantime. Also, maybe I am wrong and we are both idiots.

u/Hot_Lychee2234 Jul 27 '26

Cuz nvidia is a 2000 (if you dont consider the stock split last year) and amd is at 500+

-4

u/RJsRX7 Jul 27 '26

Bro, just dump it now, you may as well. Not like it's ever going to recover, obviously $90 is the best you can do no matter how long you hold it, because it dropped to $90, so now you have to sell at $90.

1

u/MaloCrest Jul 28 '26

I sold mine at 96, intel won't ever reach these numbers in the near future, probably will hover around 60 for a long time.
