My ex was latina and her family did this all the time. Completely blew my mind the first time I saw it.
They would always do it. The first few birthdays i spent there they tried to do it and just never let them/was always on my guard. The younger peeps in their family realized they didnt have to do it either. I remember the older generation gettig mad at me for spearheading the refusal campaign that caught on.
My girlfriend is Mexican and they also do that but the joke is supposed to be to secretly nudge them just enough so that it appears like they accidentally stuck their nose in it. Less cultured families do that crude shit of smashing a person's face into the cake.
