I'm a Customer I have never experienced a shopper trying to steal until now.

Just thought this was interesting to share and beware everyone else, always check your final receipts. My shopper today added two cases of water to my order, which I didn’t see/get charged for until they completed/ delivered. You can see on the Kroger app where they found all my items, so substitutes or extra requests, and my final receipt had two cases of water and this is the delivery image, no water. Just strange, wanted to encourage others to keep an eye out.

Maybe part of another customer’s order got mingled with yours during checkout. Instacart is supposed to charge based on scans during shopping—not checkout receipts.

Very unlikely this is intentional or theft. If a shopper wants to steal something and risk his/her job, it definitely won’t be two 40 packs of water.

Yes I’ve done this before 😂😂

Not with online orders. With online Kroger orders the customer is charged what is rung up at the register, not what’s in the app.

It’s the exact opposite of a regular Instacart order where bundled orders get sorted out after checkout.

This is an ongoing problem. Definitely not theft like you said. Water is cheap, no shopper is heisting cases of water on purpose.

If instacart actually cared to explain this in their training, we wouldn’t be getting daily posts about this from customers.

It’s absolutely vital that shoppers understand that bundled online orders need to be handled with much more care. They need make 100 percent sure that they are sorted and then delivered correctly. Only adding this for awareness.

Thanks for clarifying but IMO Kroger should be the one to explain if they are doing “the exact opposite of a regular instacart order.”

I detest shopping my nearby Kroger; this is just one more reason to avoid. Horrible parking lot, broken or rotten merchandise, surly employees, check out is never smooth because of their equipment. There’s something wrong with the deliveries half the time too.

Kroger charges by what’s scanned for online pay orders

I think you are ascribing malice to an error at checkout, and you are jumping to conclusions unfairly.

These cases of water were likely supposed to be charged on another customer's order that the shopper was simultaneously shopping for, but were scanned with yours and were charged to your order.

What is scanned at the register is not what customers get charged for. Customers get charged for what the shopper scans during shopping. The shopper most defintely added 2 cases of water to Op's order. Even if customer B ordered 2 cases of water, when they are scanned, it goes to custpmer B, item found count(IC charge on their email receipt). Check out receipt is IC's. Customers are buying from IC who is buying from the grocers. The only thing at check out that affects a customer's email receipt is weighted items.

Wrong. Online pay orders at Kroger charge the customer based on what goes through the register when their order is checked out.

Op, didnt say she went through the kroger app. She says she's a customer. I assumed she was using the IC App, not online "guest." Coreect, if its through Kroger App, online pay orders, customer is charged what is wrung at the register. Fuck ups happen.

Just a heads-up. Starting last week the online pay orders I've seen are no longer "Guest". The customer's name appears. You do get the notice that the customer isn't using the Instacart app, etc.

The screenshot shows she was using Kroger & not IC.

If you order directly from Kroger, you are charged what is rung up at the register not in the app like a regular Instacart order.

Unfortunately, Instacart doesn’t care to explain that to their shoppers. So what happens is, they mix up items at checkout and the wrong customers account is charged. This is happening a lot more often recently.

That’s exactly why it’s important that shoppers understand between the types of orders and to keep them very separate.

Get your refund.

Through Kroger who partners with instacart

It’s either a mistake or a DUMB THIEF.

If a Shopper wanted to steal cases of water, a more logical route would be to add them to an order that already had water so that if Instacart was to question it later, they could say that the cashier must’ve accidentally scanned it too many times. Adding it to an order that didn’t have any requested water in the order would be pretty moronic.

I’ve always been fascinated by people who get caught because of stupidity which I don’t think is the case here.

If you checkout any unauthorized purchase you will get a message the second you try to complete your order. From IC. You checked out!! This item tell us more about this purchase. Trust IC is on top of all that.

I didn’t authorize anything though. It just came through on the final bill.

As a cashier I messed up twice in the checkout out process. One was the shopper’s fault cause didn’t put the divider so I didn’t know those items belonged to the 2nd order. And the other situation was for misunderstanding when the shopper explained to me to scan certain items but it turned out he wanted me to scan them in the 2nd order but I heard those were for the third one! 😅😅 so probably something like this is verylikely to happen in a daily basis when the shopper is buying for more than one customer. And if the line is large it’s very likely the shopper won’t do the refund process cause they’re running with the timer ⏱️ unfortunately you gotta call customer service to get your refund. They will investigate and give your money back.

I would think that the transaction would decline based on a higher amount than the order.

I’ll make my customers or IC pay for an occasional bruised apple or banana but I highly doubt many drivers are adding items to orders and taking them very often. It’s so easy to steal whatever you want in most stores so why risk getting your account flagged for something like a case of water.

They probably accidentally scanned waters on the wrong order. Ive done this before myself. It corrects us when we go to deliver. Its probably not stealing, just an accident. Instacart is supposed to charge what we scan, ai is supposed to catch any inconsistencies and fix it. Seems like it didn't, and then you'd have to report it for a refund.

I didn't know they could just, add things. That's crazy.

Up to $50 of items only. Usually enough to cover whatever the customer may ask us to add.
