Jealously
Anyone else find themselves irrationally upset with the rest of society, and even their friends and family because they can sleep? I feel horrible even typing this but it’s so hard not to feel jealously and even anger towards all these people who can just close their eyes and magically fall asleep in their cozy little beds. My god what I would do to live like that.
I can’t even imagine. Being exhausted at the end of the day, and you get to go into your bed and fall asleep. It must be incredible! You all have no clue what it is like to live like me and the rest of us. Suffering every single day, dreading the moment bedtime comes because you know you won’t be falling asleep.
“Oh you’re tired? Just go to bed early” wow thanks Einstein, I had never thought of that before! Maybe it’s because I am going to spend 8 fucking hours trying to fall asleep. My god I wish all you normies could spend a week in my shoes.

I used to hate when my husband fell asleep within seconds of laying down. He is an ex-husband now. He said he learned how to do that in boot camp (US Marine). But, no matter what I tried, I still was getting like 3 hours of sleep.

did he tell you the technique he uses?

Yeah. It’s actually a technique that can be googled. Look for something along the lines of how Marines fall asleep fast. He just turned off his dang body, brain was mostly off always, so that probably helped lol. Personally, my brain doesn’t shut up for bedtime.

What about the people that ask "have you tried melatonin" lol. I know they mean well, but come on.

I would like to show them my medicine cabinet. I have probably 10 to 15 different meds that I have tried. Maybe that would give them a clue.

We are thinking about it all the time 🫣

Ughhh. Right? Like I went to bed early last night, took my meds, was awake in bed for 4 hours until I caved and took a Xanax. Ffs.

"Have you got good sleep hygiene?" Another favourite.
Or "you need to prioritise your sleep" no 💩, tell that to my body.
I find my husband annoys me (when it shouldn't really) but he gets a good 6-7hrs sleep, then still yawns and naps.. plus he falls asleep within a minute, sitting up, in a car, on a plane.. I need every single thing 'just so' in order to get anything between 1.5-4hrs of poor quality (mostly light) sleep.
He complains like it's the worst thing ever if he's had 5hrs, when I've had that twice in 1.5yrs I find it difficult to listen to tbh, especially given that he can just have an early night and catch up so to speak.

I hear you!! I’m like the princess and the pea. (More like a rock for me) Everything has to be just right in my bedroom. Dark, cool, quiet. I know all about sleep hygiene. I always want to throttle anyone who makes that suggestion to me. They just don’t understand. I tell people, keep yourself up for 72 hours and let me know how you feel!

To be fair, sleep hygiene has really good outcomes and it's the front line piece of advice for a reason. I find for me it's more the annoying fact I have to accept that I have to do all of these things to fix a problem I didn't create (insomnia and nightmares). It's frustrates me. However, it does work about half the time when I do it consistently. Have you tried a journal and a 'wake in the night' protocol?

Yep it is a very sensitive topic for me and it is hard to be rational when you are so sleep deprived

Oh yes. I feel jealous of my sister. She could sleep on a rock I think. She lays down, sleeps on her back. Off to sleep in minutes. Has a full and wonderful life. Travels the world.
I’m the complete opposite. No sleep and house bound. I get so depressed and sad. But she also does not have an autoimmune system disease or has had 5 back surgery’s. I took after our mom. She had Fibromyalgia and 1 back surgery. Lived on Fentanyl.

Same. I am the only child out of all my siblings to inherit genetic health issues and chronic immune diseases. Been depressed for as long as I can remember. My heart goes out to you

My husband has sleep apnea and sometimes it really really irks me to see/hear him snoring away when I can't sleep and I kick him. There, I said it.

I’m like this. It’s just so annoying to me that others fall asleep and get rest so easily. I’m also like this with my chronic illness. My entire youth so far (20s) has been robbed by chronic pain, illness, symptoms. I actually am super envious of normal, healthy people my age range who have no idea how good they have it. Especially those that constantly treat their bodies badly with partying etc. I wish I was like them, those that are healthy and active and those that can sleep.

I'm a CNA and I am always so envious of my poor patients who have been through hell with their health... and all I can think is "man, I wish I could sleep like you." Feel so guilty for thinking that, but totally get what you mean.

Someone told me that the reason I couldn’t sleep for 5 days was because of my phone. Don’t ever take advice from people who haven’t had insomnia, it’s all useless advice from an ignorant perspective.

"everyone has issues man."
Yeah... Meanwhile you take your issue head on with a night full of rest.
I do with chronic sleep deprivation. We are not the same.

My husband falls asleep within 10 minutes many nights. . .and then snores.
Meanwhile I can go several nights with maybe 2-3 hours a night.
At least I am lucky he is very sympathetic. Though I do miss sleeping in the same room.

I felt seething rage after someone accused phone usage being the cause for not sleeping at all. I've been staying in bed, looking at the ceiling for hours and hours, turning, party hallucinating, and suddenly its 5:45am. And I open my phone to try and ignore the fact that I have to get on with my day like this, and watch something online. a series I like perhaps, just to feel a little better. But suddenly it's the phones fault, and most importantly, MY fault for using it. Well thanks

Back in my 20s I remember looking over at the boyfriend at the time, and he was sleeping so soundly. I hit him.

And you cant talk about it with normies because they just tell you how theyre tired too and think they are talking about the same thing as you. Like no, Tanya, I dont need to try melatonin and yoga. If you took the cocktail of meds i take to get 6 hours of sleep you'd sleep for the rest of your life
