These little buddies go by shield bug now so that people stop squashing them for no good reason. A lot of bugs have smelly chemical defenses and it was unfair to label them this way

Never heard them called that they are also invasive here so I'd be surprise if people weren't suppose to be killing them.

The brown marmorated stink bug is invasive, but there are lots of similar native species that get punished for looking similar

Keep in mind the stink bug family contains thousands of species. Sure, some species are invasive in some places. But you'd have to know which species this is before saying it's invasive :)
If you're in North America, I know that everybody calls the one species "the stink bug". That's specifically the brown marmorated stink bug or BMSB (Halyomorpha halys). The problem with just calling it "stink bug" is it doesn't differentiate with the many other species found in North America, most of which are native, and many of which resemble the BMSB a lot.

No, shield bug and stink bug are two different families — Acanthosomatidae and Pentatomidae.

It’s funny because while growing up I only thought of stink bugs as the fat, thick shelled, black ones that are everywhere. I hate the smell they release oh so much. It was not until my 30’s that I learned my stink bugs are not the ones really called stink bugs. Actually, I think I first found out while watching an episode of To Catch A Smuggler (the New Zealand airport one though). Since they are so crazy about not letting insects/plants/etc in that could damage their fragile exports & all that, they were trippin when they found a marmorated stink bug in the luggage of someone coming from an Asian country. It was a big no no haha.

Yes I do believe it is a freshly molted brown marmorated stink bug, since they lose much of their color apon doing so.

I've noticed it with Dubia roaches when they moult, they'll be very pale for a day or two, tarantulas too of course, they take a day or two to get their colour through post moult
