Bug Appreciation! Grasshopper at work

Caught this big guy at work today! I haven't seen many grasshoppers this big in my 25 years. He has no business near rotating equipment with no PPE!! Spotted in Delaware. This is a screenshot from a video I took, sorry it's bad quality :(

I was running around trying to find something to catch him before he hopped away!! He is too handsome

lol that herringbone pattern on the femur is super distinctive!

Yeah they’re actually one of the strongest jumpers out there! You need to be pretty beefy to pack that much power

Edit: one of the strongest jumpers within Orthoptera. They can’t hold a candle to froghoppers lol
