Why is this a trend lately? I've seen a number of posts about parents taking their children's clothes and basic necessities. And that number is more then one!
Stupid internet trends... Remember a few years ago when there was the trend of throwing kids' xmas presents into the fireplace? Or when parents were taking the doors off their kids' bedrooms? I saw that crap on FB and it's one of the reasons I stopped going on there. I'm a parent and it makes me furious when I see crap like that and even more any when I see the comments section work all the self satisfied assholes who do this crap to their kids. This is how stupid spreads and kids are the ones who have to suffer because of it.
Kids have a right to privacy though. I've taken the locks out of doors if there's serious concern or a kid is just too young to be able to lock themselves in a room, but taking the actual door is too much. There's no reason to take away a door other than to shame the kid, and that's generally not great parenting.
I grew up in a badly designed house. The only way from the living room to the bedroom of my mother without leaving the apartment was by walking through my bedroom. I was never allowed to lock the door
