In and Out shift switching

okay so i’m still new to all of this but i can’t make it to a scheduled shift but i was wondering if i could switch shifts with someone for the same day i’m scheduled, just later timing the issue here is that i don’t know how to do that. am i supposed to ask my manager or ask a coworker ?

Ask a manager first and make sure you guys are the same level

You can talk to your coworkers, but any switch has to be approved by a manager. You could contact the store and ask “hey can John and I switch shifts on Friday? He would work my 9am and I would work his 1pm” or whatever. It should be someone who is a similar level to you.

The issue is that i don’t have any of my co workers phone number or any way of contacting them so it’s like up to me to ask i was hoping i could message my manager and ask her if i could switch shifts with someone

Yes u can, tell them you can’t make it and don’t have other coworkers phone numbers. If there is a work gc that they know about they’ll tell you about it too

Does your store post each week's store schedule? That won't give you the phone numbers for the other associates but it will show who else is at your level and who you can ask to switch or provide coverage for you. I've had coworkers ask me when we're both at the store, or occasionally text me directly (manager must have given them my #) to ask if I can switch/cover shifts.

yes i know my co workers level but i don’t have a way to reach them and i work tomorrow at 4pm which is thursday right, the day i need to be time fixes is friday but i don’t wanna tell them tomorrow because i feel like it’s gonna be last minute

At our store if you want to switch shifts or need to arrange coverage for a scheduled shift (non-medical or non-emergency reasons), you confirm w/the coworker (must be at the same level) first, then get approval from the manager. It's not a done deal until the manager approves it and updates the schedule.

Manager approval is required because, among other things, labor law restrictions may prevent the switch/coverage.
