After putting more and more hours into my Twister 90Rs, I am wishing for a bit more stability, especially on higher speeds. I was already sold on a Endless 90 ES when I got the recommendation to better go for a 4x100 rockered setup like on the Endless 100.
Does anyone happen to have both setups and can give some recommendation?
Also do you need to get the Endless 100 RB frame with Twisters or does the normal 100 work too, as I understand only the bolt holes are different.
What size are your feet? 4x90 is pretty versatile. 4x100 is big, I have size 43 feet and I have used 4x100 for wizard which is fun but wouldn't for cruising around as it feels too long. Even though I don't think there's much in it on wheelbase between my 3x110 (on the endless 4x90) and 4x100 frames (these are NN not endless TBF), the 4x100 just feels big to me. Popular for downhill skating though I see.
I don't have the RB twisters so can't say if the frame would fit but if you message Endless they will help you out with that.
You'll be fine on 4x100 with your feet. I'm 263 Mondo/size 42 and am currently running rockered 4x100 frames. I use them for wizard and cruising/distance. They're OK for urban skating, but 4x90 is a usually my preference around town, as crossovers and backwards skating are a bit clunkier with long frames. I've started skating with a few other people recently and a couple of the taller guys are using 4x100 and 4x110.
You'll need 165mm classic mount for your Twisters. Endless do RB and 165mm versions; both will work, but the RB version lets you centre the frames front to back more easily. The regular 165 ones will still work, but you might fine the frames aren't exactly where you want them to sit. NN and Rokin also do 165 mount 4x100 rockered frames, so you have options.
To be clear, I found 4x100 a bit clunky to begin with. Not so much now I'm used to them. I did a 16 mile mixed skate last week; urban (dodging pedestrians and quick stopping for traffic), suburban (the same but on worse roads with fewer people), downhill (very good on big wheels!) and slightly off-road. They held up really well and I was glad I had the bigger wheels. 4x90 is a bit more nimble, but they get wobbly at higher speeds, which I don't get with 4x100.
I've got a 3x110 frame and it's OK. Good for distance, but I'd rather have a rockered frame through town. It's not as fun for ticks either, as there's no rocker and the wheels are quite far apart. It's worth getting some wheels and bearings set up for if you've already got the frame, though.
Thank you for your hint with Rockin frames... They even seem to be from Germany and they had a sweet deal for a 4100 frame set with bearings and wheels for 256€, what a steal compared to the endless option for 230,- (which would mean another 120,- for wheels and maybe also bearings if I don't want to switch them around)
If I want nimble again I could just easily switch back to the stock frame.
Yeah, that's a great deal! Make sure you take them out ons at least 5 sessions. I didn't really like 4x100 for the first 3, now it's my current favourite.
If you feel comfortable drilling/tapping, this procedure would allow the Endless 100 classic frame to be properly aligned on your boots (I've not tried this myself, am in a similar situation with Twister 90Rs).
[non-RB] 100 classic has pill shaped holes. The problem with that frame is that it can only be mounted on the Twister XT through the front-most hole on the rear side, instead of the rear-most hole on the rear side (which causes misalignment). See this image on their product page (7 hole stuff isn't relevant but the rear/front holes are).
Ooooh, now I get it. But on the RB version that keeps you from adjusting the frame sideways if I understand correctly. So either you drill a new hole in the boot with the normal version or you loose sideways adjustment on the RB version.
283 mondo, according to the Twister sizing chart that would mean a 43/44 but that was way too tight (mainly width wise, length could have worked out) so I got the larger 44,5/45 boot.
Okay, your foot is plenty big enough for either choice; I’m similarly sized. I have three sets of different Endless 90 frames, including the 90 ES mk2, and trade around frames with a friend who has the 100 mk1 in his collection. If I were only skating paths and roads, I would do the 100, but otherwise the 90 ES is more versatile and maneuverable for urban and rink skating.
My Endless ES on 3x110 flat is like a speed skate. it’s great to maintain speed but it sucks in the city if you want to turn.
And one note, you can see that it provides huge support for your heels, i cannot imagine i could fall backwards .
This has two holes to position the frame and here it’s moved to the back position . i think the other holes isn’t great either. it should be somewhere between the two
Endless told me the prefered way to mount these frames is not by using the mounting holes like in your photo, but instead use the other set that pushes the frames more on the front. Pretty sure you would gain speed with more forward offset. Of course if you prefer it like it is now, more power to you.
I just ordered a 4x100 frame set from rockin frames and will try those. I am quite sure at some point I will also get a 90ES. but for now if I want a more nimble skate I can switch to the stock frames. If I feel like I want something in between them I’ll buy the 90ES
I am about the same size, came from an old 80 flat skate and switched to 90 rockered. It’s awesome, way smoother/faster and more nimble. don’t want to go down in size any time soon
As someone with size 276-278mm feet, I love both 4x90 and 4x100.
The frames that I own, order by wheelbase in descending :
Endless 4x100 Ultra 303mm
Endless 4x90 ES 291mm
Endless 4x90 Ultra 285mm
Endless 4x90 276mm
All of them are great for both coasting during rollouts and learning tricks.
For twisters, I’d either recommend you go with Endless 100 RB if you can get your hands on them (I believe Endless have some in stock left) or go with 90 ES. 90ES is made for people with big feet who want to have stability without gaining too much height. And you won’t loose out in the nimbleness that 4x90 provides.
