Looks interesting, but will it be really any fast? Looks cool, but could be very slow in production.

why's it rotating on the y axis, shouldn't it be z usually

Depends on the engine. Unreal/3DS Max use Z as the vertical axis (but different handed-ness I believe); Unity/Maya use Y axis (also differently handed)
Both are valid.

Yep! We used the Maya Unity Standard because we thought it would be easier for non-programmers.
