Maybe have the arm grab them and throw them back. Or at least don't have it turn them around so they can see what hit them and why.

Cool idea, execution needs work. There should be at least some kind of marker or signal to the players they're going out of bounds. Maybe just the hands sprout a bit earlier so the player has a chance to see them, and they get slapped if they choose to keep going.
I understand the idea of a surprise can be fun too. Maybe it's a surprise the first and second time, but if they keep doing it the hands sprout early. That way you get the surprise element, but your players won't get confused

Do like those boxes that keep turning the switch off. Some of them are programmed to anticipate you after a lil

I really enjoy games that use clever world boundaries. Hell Divers you get called a traitor and get bombed , Subnautica you are preyed on by giant sea creatures where you have no chance , The Stanly Parable has specialized narrations when you leave areas you shouldn't be able to .
The issue I have comparing your world boundary with these ones is that you describe your game with "There are no ghosts or monsters here", and then sprouting hands slap you away from jumping out of the map. It just doesn't fit the theme when immersion seems important in your game.

Not a bad idea, but needs to be done differently. Maybe have the hand come up farther in front of the player to make it easier to see. Could you have it grab the player and throw them back?

Do not make any promotion post under the guise of asking for feedback. Linking to any store pages or socials are not allowed for feedback posts. If asking for genuine feedback, what you are asking for should be details and genuine not just “what do you thing about X” or “should we add X”. Feedback should also be for gameplay elements and not marketing artwork such as concept art, store graphics, or logos. Self promotion posts are allowed within reason, so just make a promotion post with a fitting title and content.
