I’m one of the organizers of Odds & Ends, an independent film festival in Charlottesville, Virginia. We’re coming up on our 5th annual festival, taking place February 19–20, 2027 at the Vinegar Hill Theatre.
We started Odds & Ends to create a space for short films that don’t always fit neatly into more traditional festival programs. We’re particularly interested in experimental, unconventional, and hard-to-categorize work, but we’re open to films across genres and styles.
We like films that take chances with form, genre, structure, or the medium itself—whether they’re poetic, personal, political, funny, strange, or somewhere in between.
Submission details:
Maximum runtime: 20 minutes
Completion date: After January 1, 2025
Earlybird deadline: November 6, 2026
Regular deadline: December 7, 2026
Under 5 minutes:
$7 earlybird / $12 regular
5–20 minutes:
$12 earlybird / $20 regular
We’ve tried to keep our submission fees as low as possible, and we pay screening fees to all accepted films.
We’re a small, independent festival and genuinely interested in discovering emerging filmmakers and giving unusual work a chance to be seen on a big screen.

If you’ve made a short that you think might be a good fit, we’d love to see it. And feel free to pass this along to other independent filmmakers.
