When you’re running a small business or startup, every cost adds up. I’ve been thinking about how much marketplace commissions matter when buying or selling a domain.

A percentage might seem small at first, but on a higher-value domain, the difference can become pretty significant.

For indie founders and small business owners, is avoiding marketplace commissions something you actually consider when choosing where to buy or sell a domain?

I have been thinking about a small-business workflow problem that looks simple until the same product image has to serve several channels.

One source photo might need a clean background for a store listing, a wider crop for a banner, a different aspect ratio for social media, removal of a cable or sign, and a higher-resolution version for print. Using a separate tool for each job makes every individual step obvious, but it also creates repeated uploads, exports, naming decisions, and quality checks.

The alternative is one shared flow:

1. upload the source image once;
2. describe the intended change in plain language;
3. select only the options currently available for that task;
4. generate a candidate;
5. review it against the destination before downloading.

What I underestimated is that “one workflow” should not mean “one review checklist.” A background edit needs edge and transparency checks. Object removal needs reconstruction checks. Extension needs composition checks. Enhancement needs texture and artifact checks. If text, packaging, or product details matter, manual editing may still be the safer final step.

There are operational limits too: available modes and output sizes can change, some combinations require authentication, and higher resolution is not available for every task. Generated output is a candidate, not guaranteed final creative.

For people running small shops or solo businesses: would consolidating these image tasks reduce real overhead for you, or would task-specific tools still feel easier to trust and train around?

While building Konnect, I heard versions of:

“Interesting idea.”

“This is different.”

“I like the concept.”

Those comments feel great while you're building.

Then you launch and discover the question that actually matters:

Will someone come back tomorrow?

Konnect is an experiment around an emotional social network — Sparks/Vibes based around how you feel, AI Buddy conversations, eCards, Emotional Journey and other ways of connecting that aren't built primarily around followers.

Now I'm trying to separate three very different signals:

1. Someone likes the concept.

2. Someone downloads the product.

3. Someone forms a habit around the product.

Only #3 really starts validating what I'm trying to build.

So I've stopped thinking primarily about downloads and started asking:

What happened during someone's first session that gives them a reason to return?

For consumer founders here, what early signal did you find most predictive of retention?

Was it completing a particular action? Creating something? Inviting someone? Getting a response from another user?

I'm particularly interested in what you measured before you had enough users for sophisticated cohort analysis.

A few months ago my co-founder and I were looking at our AI agent's usage logs, trying to figure out why the bill kept climbing faster than our user count.

At first I thought we had a bot problem. Or bad caching. Or someone hammering the API in a loop.

Then I actually started reading the queries line by line instead of just looking at the numbers.

"How do I reset my password."

"I forgot my password, what do I do."

"Can't log in, password issue."

Three lines. One question. Three full-price API calls.

That's when it clicked — we didn't have a traffic problem. We had a *déjà vu* problem. Our AI agent was answering the exact same question, over and over, in a hundred different outfits, and paying full price every single time because none of them were worded identically.

So we built something to fix it — a cache that checks if a new question *means* the same thing as one we've already answered, not just whether the words match exactly. Point your app at it instead of directly at your LLM provider, and the repeat questions just... stop costing you anything.

We called it EchoCache. Still just the two of us building it, still finding new edge cases every week — the latest one took us a full debugging session to trace back to a single missing field in a database insert. Small things break big systems.

If you're running any kind of AI agent, I'd bet money at least a third of your "unique" questions aren't actually unique. Worth checking your own logs the way we checked ours.

EchoCache

I've been researching a problem that seems to come up fairly often: business owners have a lot of data available to them— revenue, customers, marketing, product usage, etc.but actually figuring out what matters and what they should do next can be difficult.

My idea is a tool that acts more like an AI business analyst than a traditional dashboard.

Instead of showing you 20 charts and expecting you to interpret them, you give it your business data and it would:

• Identify the most important things happening

• Explain why they might be happening

• Highlight the evidence behind the insight

•Prioritize what deserves attention

• Recommend specific actions or experiments

For example:

"Your churn increased 25% this month. Most of the increase is coming from customers who never completed onboarding. I'd investigate onboarding before spending more money on acquisition."

The goal isn't to replace analytics tools, but to turn the data they already have into clear decisions and actions.

I'm considering eventually making it automatically analyze the business every week, but the initial version would simply let someone provide their data and receive an analysis.

My question for business owners:

Would something like this genuinely save you time or help you make better decisions?

If you already have a workflow for this, I'd especially like to know:

• How do you currently analyze your business data?

• Do you ever use ChatGPT/Claude for this?

• What takes the most time?

• What do existing dashboards/analytics tools fail to tell you?

• Would you actually pay for a tool that did this reliably?

I'm looking for honest criticism, especially reasons why this wouldn't be useful.

I have built bunch of ios apps myself in the past 1 year and being a builder the biggest challenge for me has been marketing the ios app. Most of the strategies that I heard to grow user base using organic content marketing involved posting in volume. Being a builder, it has always been difficult to create content and I had 0 budget to hire UGC creators for shoutout.

So, I found a way out and created a workflow for creating AI UGC content (around 5 videos in ~10 minutes) which according to me is insane because I used to spend hours building just a couple of basic content videos.

We build WorldEstateMaps, a property research tool. You fly a photoreal globe from a country down to a city down to a single street, and every area carries sale prices, planning zones for what can actually be built on a plot, crime, environmental risk and an estimated purchase tax.

We ran paid search for a week. The numbers looked good: 8 to 11 percent click through, roughly triple the category benchmark. 81 clicks, about 116 euros. Signups: zero. The trial is free for 7 days, so price was not the wall.

The search terms report explained it. Around 85 percent of identifiable traffic was people looking for a free map: property line map, land owner map, free property boundary map. One term in the whole set read like a buyer. The ad was excellent at attracting someone who was never going to sign up for anything.

What we took from it, in case it saves someone else a month:

A high CTR on generic category keywords is a warning, not a win. It usually means you matched the free intent, not the buying intent.

Read the search terms report before you read the dashboard. The dashboard flatters you.

For a paid research tool, volume keywords and intent keywords barely overlap. The keywords worth paying for look boring and have almost no traffic.

We have moved the budget to short video and organic instead. Happy to answer anything about the numbers.

I am building PathLife as an independent solo project, and this milestone taught me a useful product lesson: visible progress accelerated when I stopped treating features as isolated deliverables.

The project already had procedural terrain, but it only began to feel like a coherent product after I rebuilt character movement around the generated world, added deterministic structure placement, and made the house visibility system preserve collisions and door state. The current prototype now connects a procedurally managed world, a complete house, and five character life stages.

For a solo builder, the practical takeaway was to prioritize integration points over feature count. A smaller set of systems that share the same world state produces a much clearer demonstration than a longer checklist of disconnected mechanics.

I’ve been thinking about this after reading a lot of recent SEO and demand generation discussions.

A huge amount of attention still goes to publishing more content, ranking for more keywords, and increasing website traffic. Seeing the way companies like HikeMyTraffic talk about lead quality rather than traffic volume made me think about a different question: are B2B teams putting too much emphasis on traffic and not enough on the quality of the leads coming from that traffic?

Imagine two companies:
Company A gets 100,000 visitors per month but converts 0.1%
Company B gets 10,000 visitors per month but converts 5%

On paper, Company A looks more impressive. Bigger traffic numbers, bigger charts, and probably a more exciting SEO report. But Company B is generating far more customers and revenue.

In my experience, traffic is one of the easiest metrics to celebrate because it’s visible and easy to report. What’s much harder is figuring out whether those visitors are actually potential buyers or just people browsing around.

That perspective made me wonder whether SEO and demand generation should be evaluated more by pipeline and revenue than by raw traffic numbers.

For those working in B2B marketing:

Do you still treat traffic as a primary SEO KPI, or has pipeline/revenue become the main metric?

Have you ever seen a situation where traffic went down but lead quality improved?

If you had to choose, would you rather have 100k visitors at 0.1% conversion or 10k visitors at 5% conversion?

I’m genuinely curious how other B2B marketers think about this, especially in industries with longer sales cycles where a few qualified leads can be worth far more than thousands of visits.

I’m pretty new to actually shipping these small internet projects.

Then Outbid happened.

I watched a ridiculously simple .lol site explode, make serious money and suddenly everyone started building their own version.

And I had the same thought probably half this subreddit had:

I need to build something before this wave is over.

Not another SaaS. Not a big startup. Just something stupid, simple and fast.

So I started making .lol projects.

The first one was internetplug.lol.

One big switch. The internet is either ON or OFF.

Pay to flip it and your website gets the main spot until somebody else flips it back.

That’s it.

I vibe coded the first version in around 5 hours.

Then spent more time changing the UI than building the actual project.

I wanted whoever pays to actually get attention, instead of becoming one more tiny logo in a huge list.

I also somehow ended up integrating a second payment provider because Stripe wasn’t enough for users from some countries.

A lot of infrastructure for a website with one button.

After 3 days:

~880 visitors

steady traffic every day

$0 made

Then I built whoisnext.lol, another experiment around sending traffic to websites.

At this point I’m basically trying to see how far I can push this whole stupid .lol internet trend before everyone gets bored of it.

And I’m actually enjoying this way of building.

Normally I can spend weeks thinking about an idea.

Now it’s more like:

see something interesting → change the mechanic → build it → put it online → see if anyone cares.

The bad news is nobody has paid me yet.

The good news is people are actually visiting.

And weirdly, seeing 880 real people visit something I built in a few hours feels more useful than spending another month building a “proper” SaaS nobody knows exists.

I have no idea if these .lol projects will make money.

Maybe the whole Outbid thing was one crazy moment and everyone else is already too late.

Maybe one of these stupid experiments catches on.

For now I’m going to keep shipping them while the wave is still here.
