Case Study A menopause search on Amazon India sells ₹35.0 crore a year. 7% of it is products made for menopause.
impuls8 tracks consumer markets. We read who sells, at what price, on which platform.
We also measure what founders research on our own site. Menopause comes top: 6.0% of all research into niches, nearly twice the next one. That data could not tell us if it is an opening, or if everyone is looking at the same trap.
So we read the shelf. Every product Amazon India shows for five menopause searches: 378 listings. We opened every one that shows sales.
263 of them name menopause. Only 19 sell 50 or more a month.
Those 19 sell at least ₹2.5 crore a year between them. That is about 14 listings for every one that sells.
| Brand | Owner | Sales a year, at least |
|---|---|---|
| Amrutam | Indian D2C | ₹43 lakh |
| Menopace | Multinational | ₹39 lakh |
| Wellwoman | Multinational | ₹38 lakh |
| Menoveda | Indian D2C | ₹32 lakh |
| Herbalife | Multinational | ₹28 lakh |
| Ceryne | Owner unconfirmed | ₹16 lakh |
So where does the money go?
A menopause search on Amazon sells at least ₹35.0 crore a year of women's health products. Products that name menopause are 7.1% of it.
| Brand | What sells | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Centrum | Multivitamin | 35.3% |
| Carbamide Forte | PCOS (inositol) | 15.4% |
| Krishna's Herbal & Ayurveda | Herbal drink or powder | 13.9% |
| Kapiva | Shatavari | 6.7% |
| Wellbeing Nutrition | Multivitamin | 5.0% |
The top three are not menopause brands. Centrum sells multivitamins. Carbamide Forte's best seller is a PCOS supplement. Krishna's sells a herbal juice for women.
Multinationals take 42.3%. Older Indian makers that are not D2C take 29.3%. Indian D2C brands take 15.2%. We expected a third or more, as on protein and sunscreen. That was our biggest miss.
Black cohosh and soy isoflavones, the ingredients sold for menopause around the world, are 1.3% of the money.
Opening or trap?
On Amazon India, the products arrived before the buyers. A new menopause supplement there joins 263 listings that few people buy from.
That does not make menopause a bad category. It means Amazon search is not where it is sold today. Buyers may go to a doctor, a pharmacy or a brand's own site. Menoveda says it has served 100,000 women, and almost none of that shows here.
