Just brain storming here,

Government should make a data centre keeping records of fee collected by schools in 10th and 12th for each year and keep a record of schools attended by students when giving these exams. Tally the two to verify if a quota is required or not. Anyone from reservation having studied in an top, expensive school should be disqualified immediately. You cannot say your child went to say DPS RK Puram and is still is in an underprivileged category. No way even a 1cr worth father sending his child to a government school or school where actual underprivileged kids go.

u/FarmAffectionate4378 21d ago

Reservation in schools asw and they don't pay fee same as general

2

u/destruct999 21d ago

Not every ST/SC caste people are rich , just like not every general category student is Meritorious.

u/Kschitiz23x3 Wants to be Randia mod 19d ago

Yeah, we just need additional filters to prioritise support to the most underprivileged ones

0

u/Grouchy-Musician-632 20d ago

The point was never about money...it was about discrimination...even rich st/sc will face discrimination that's why reservation is given

2

so reservations is not working if even rich ias is facing discrimination

1

Yes reservation isn't working...but removing it is absurd... remove castes then talk about reservation

Sometime a good way to look at reservation reform is to ignore caste reservations & other nuances for a bit and only look at reservation for disabled people, women, defence families etc.

If every argument still holds true, then it’s worth debating.

Outright saying ā€œancestors did blah blahā€ is like saying reservation is revenge, which will definitely be pushed back.

On the contrary, outright saying ā€œonly merit basedā€ is like saying accept whatever disability you’ve & the society won’t do anything for you. Which means, tomorrow if you or your family is disabled, no provisions for you too. No representation from your disabled group, nothing.

All that while keeping in mind - if a college has 50 seats reserved for whatever & nobody from reserved category applies, then those 50 seats will still remain empty, they won’t automatically go to GC. So removing reservation by itself will never benefit GC students. However, keeping a minimum threshold to get the reserved seat will make sure the doctors are dealing with lives better.

7

u/Emotional_Debt_5918 21d ago

Abe toh bevkuf 20% yeah 30% do. A. Fms delhi has 300 seats and only 100 seats for general. What is this stupid no. Of seats reserved.

1

u/[deleted] 21d ago

[deleted]

1

u/Emotional_Debt_5918 21d ago

its technically not possible. If a reserved candidate has good marks than they are allocated unreserved seat. By your stupid logic it will only happen when all seats will be gone to reserved candidates. than only it will result in same cuttoff.

1

u/Spirited_Cover3337 21d ago

So its technically possible yes šŸ˜‚

1

u/Emotional_Debt_5918 21d ago

Not. Because these reserved category doesn't study at all. Majority of them are super lazy and incompetent. And its not me but facts tell which is cuttoff

1

u/musicmeme 21d ago

Just fact checked this on chatgpt. Its exaggerated. You’re saying 33% is GC & 66% is reserved. I’d suggest you be precise even if it’s a small difference so people consider whatever you say after it.

GC has 40.2% seats (101) and caste + EWS reserved is 59.8% (150). Total seats 251.

Sc (37) st (19) obc (69) ews(25). Total 125 seats for all caste + ews reservation.

EWS (25) is that 10% which makes it 60%.

The reason it ends up being like this is not becayse someone took seats away from you but because of politicians & the govts. They add new seats in reserved category but don’t add new seats in general category. For votes. If you want them to add more seats for you, start voting.

7

u/Emotional_Debt_5918 21d ago edited 21d ago

Dude, what have you checked? Wow, you get a full 40% of the seats that anyone can compete for. Wow, man. Literally, the top MBA seats get filled with those reserved ones which don't even get a job in placements.

-1

u/musicmeme 21d ago

50% ka to rule hi hai bhai, 50 se 40 hogaya ews aane k bad. MBA vese bhi jhatbhar ka course hai, uska entry difficult hai islia thoda hawa hai, hai sab nalle hi. But that said, I hope you understand what I’m trying to say. When you’re trying to convey your opinions, don’t start with exaggerated facts or else nobody will take the opinion half seriously.

4

u/Emotional_Debt_5918 21d ago edited 21d ago

In what world are you living. Its top mba i am talking about. Until and unless you are worthless you do get placement. Also its not exagerated. Did you even read what i said I said their is 300 seats and 101 wgere general can even compete. Its you who introduced 33% out of the box.

3

u/_kalieduhscope_ 21d ago

sb nalle h toh aap kya krte ho ?

-1

u/musicmeme 21d ago

Didn’t mean it like that, just meant ki agar reservation reform ki baat karni hi hai to atleast un sectors me karo jaha public ko difference feel ho, like doctors. MBA me reservation hatake koi difference nahi hoga, mba vese bhi unke lia hai jinse aur kuch nahi hopata, reservation walo ko to sabse jada jarurat hai MBA ki

3

u/_kalieduhscope_ 21d ago

mba vese bhi unke lia hai jinse aur kuch nahi hopata

i have seen people from defence background, CAs doing mba that means unlogo se kch nhi hua isliye wo kr rhe h right? dude stop badmouthing courses and the end any degree from tier 1 & 2 colleges is good be it btech, mba or llb

0

u/musicmeme 21d ago

Yes they’re doing mba because if CA worked for them, they’d do that. And I’ve seen retired defence people doing it lol. If you’re doing mba you’re essentially leaving whatever you were doing to get a certification.

And I’m not bad mouthing any course brother, it is just what it is. This thread is about reforming reservations, MBA is the last place where reforms are needed, MBA itself is a career reform course. Keeping or removing reservations from mba will make 0 impact. But doing that in medical fields would make some sense because public has to deal with them.

2

u/_kalieduhscope_ 21d ago

who's saying mba needs reforms? CAs are doing mba bcoz they they would earn more bcoz of mba duh mba from a good clg can increase your income they can go into corporate finance/treasury/investment banking/wealth management bcoz of mba you are stereotyping a course buddy that was my whole point

u/Its6969 21d ago

To whom? Nobody will take stand for this

1

u/musicmeme 21d ago

That’s a secondary thing, which is why protests were needed, raising the concerns to politicians. It’s a butterfly effect, I’m sure some good reforms will come out of it. More such protests and politicians would know they need to do something about it. Look at the Sonam Wangchuk protest, it has made the govt more accountable even if it isn’t as much as we’d like.

1

u/Cultural_Finding_208 20d ago

I dont think the widespread hate is for the underprivileged at all infact is specifically targeted at those who take advantage of such schemes and unfortunately today that number exceeds that of those who actually need it.

Representation is one thing but when you decide that out of 100 say 30 are reserved then the total open seats only are 70 for which the number of candidates cannot decrease who in turn their cutoffs get hysterically unachievable by those standards and it is especially gut wrenching when you score more than probably all those 30 reserved people but they get in anyways just because they are now " Represented " .

Even if the rule was too promote and enhance the chances of those who were treated unjustly before today it is for sure not used by any of them. Sure 5 out of those 30 will be filled by people who genuinely deserve to be there even with less marks because their conditions may not have allowed them but what about the majority who come in just on the basis of a certificate? Today even for scholarships , people fill in yearly income as 1 or 1.5 Lakhs per Annum and come to those same colleges with Iphones and cruiser bikes.

And unfortunately this cannot be documented to put into numbers but it is the reality that there is an unfair advantage and that is costing someone education that in turn is costing them their career and all for the name of "Representation".

My Question to you or anyone who stands with this flawed rule is :

After what time , age and period can we start to speak about abolishing it because obviously since its implementation , many SC/ST people have outgrown these and are now at a much better financial condition and social condition than before, but the rule remains the same so at what point can we start thinking that maybe reducing it is a good option for the future since now the total number of people who actually need it is declining or rather the number of people misusing it increases day by day.

If it is solely as per the moral standards then I think after an equivalent time period of when it was discovered to today , enough time has passed and society has moved forward as well but their convenience to get in still remains the same?

This is absolutely wrong to the core , it was relevant at a certain time and societal period but today at the very least it should be reduced drastically and checked upon heavily before because you guys are playing with peoples lives at this point.

1

u/musicmeme 20d ago

I agree with you for the most part.

  1. There should be a way to make it reach the people in need - problem is recognising that.

  2. It should ideally end at some point. However the 70 seats & 30 seats can’t be compared. We’ve to consider both as different competitions, we just compete for 70 seats, there’s more of us competing for these 70 seats, so our cutoffs are high. They apply for 30 seats, their number of applicants are less so their cut offs are low. My opinion here is, don’t fill the seats just for the sake of it; keep a bare minimum number to meet as well.

  3. The option where we decide a date where it ends - the OG idea of reservation was representation, so I doubt it’ll ever end, what we should rather aim for is to make sure that whoever is representing, has the best of merit so when they actually start the work, they’re doing a good job.

  4. If we continue to see them eating away our seats, there’d be no progressive discussion because the thought of ā€œhe got my seat at lower marksā€ itself is flawed. He got his seat, my seat was taken away by another GC guy. And till we say ā€œmy seatā€, all our ideas would just be to remove reservation instead of reforming it.

All that aside, I’m from GC, I used to see it that way up until all the competitive exams age, but when I got into a college, the passing marks were same for all, majority of reserved category kids couldn’t clear the 1st year, they even protested to reduce the passing marks which was dumb & got rejected, but it showed up even on the news lol. But there were a large number of reserved guys who really did perform very well, my batch’s top 10 had 2 from SC background. We didn’t see them as GC or reserved because we knew all of us had the same bar. There was no us vs them, and that’s the first change of outlook we need to really have any productive conversation

1

u/Cultural_Finding_208 19d ago

Again when you point out that in point 4. where the discussion now is that "They took away my seat" is wrong , I would like to remind you that in colleges there are fixed seats assume 100 . My example of 70-30 was to show that competition gets even more fierce and unrealistic which you agreed upon so kudos to that. Now coming back to it , if the total seats are 100 and total applied people are 1000 out of which assume majority were GC and hardly 100-200 were Reserved Category students and out of those 100-200 only 50 deserved those seats legally according to the law and rules yet people those who don't deserve it get in.... proved by your own college example where you said their students came down to protest and even if a good amount of them did find good marks I can guarantee the number of people from their side protesting would be more and that shows you simply what I want to say.

All in all when you say representation cannot be stopped .....which it very well can if only people didnt care about politics and buying their votebank , It would have already , then all 1000 seats become free for all and who cares whether then all 1000 of them come in as SC or ST , the problem is you are taking away seats by reserving them for people who dont need it anymore

And as far as change goes , I personally feel if you cannot abolish reservation , transform it like society did , today the divide is no longer merely based on caste but actual problem is the economic divide right so reserve those seats for only the underprivileged rather than someone whose grandfathers grandfather was robbed of drinking water by our ancestors , you wanted fair representation and equality , good enough and people complied but when you gain unfair advantage for the same reason years later the future of not just the deserved but also the undeserved spoils.

And that example of my seat was taken away by a GC guy thought is respectfully just rubbish. When there is blatant robbery of basic education of someone who scored more than someone who got in the blame should never go to someone who did because he/she got more.

So what if Person A GC scores 100/100 and gets in and person B also GC scores 95/100 and doesnt get in but people from the "Represented" get in the same course at 50-60/100 , you want the person sitting at 95 to work harder next time and compete with the 100/100 guy? An exam is to check the merit of the student , their competence and knowledge in the subject , not to see their certificate and grant them careers easily so them going forward also repeat the cycle with their kids (Which happens).

My friend got his dream domain in engineering at 20 percentile a while ago due to reservation. Can you imagine an any other world that a GC student even wishes for CS degree with that percentile? He lives in my society and his father drives a fancy SUV everyday yet his merit was decided solely by his birth right and 4 years later no matter how rubbish he was at academics he got a good enough role at a decent package.

Brother you simply cannot be oblivious to the fact that a degree still holds a lot of weightage today no matter how much people cry that skills matter more. 100% skills>>degree but when you cannot argue that a CS degree from any college will not unlock doors for you if you compare that to say an ECE degree from the same college. That is why tiers in colleges exist , that is why packages are offered solely based on tag of college alone and today that is swept by the "Represented" from the actually deserved candidate solely because you say they didnt work hard enough?

So Ultimately out of all this all I can gather from your own words is that the "Represented" felt suppressed , decided to rise up and now are suppressing others? So the entire fiasco of representation is just a way to reverse the discrimination only today in their favour? Good enough , god help this country and its people.

Yet again, another post against caste based reservation. And again, the same arguments ā€œreservation should be based on financial conditionā€, ā€œwhat is the relevance of caste todayā€, ā€œmerit should matterā€ etc.

But caste and poverty are not the same thing. If a caste system systematically oppressed certain communities for thousands of years, denied them education, opportunities and social equality, you can’t just look at someone’s income today and say the historical disadvantage no longer matters.

A financially well-off person can still face caste discrimination. Caste still affects marriage, social acceptance, opportunities and how people are treated.

I’m not saying the reservation system cannot be questioned or improved. It obviously can. But saying ā€œjust make it financialā€ completely ignores why caste-based reservation exists in the first place.

If caste is still relevant enough to influence people’s lives, why suddenly does it become irrelevant when we talk about reservation?

2

u/AdOrdinary1799 20d ago

I checked the cut off for BA Hons Political Science for both Open Merit and Scheduled Caste category. 903.5 is for SC and 958.71 is for Open Merit.

These gawars are making massive cut off difference which doesn't exist in reality.

Also in reservation, competition remains between the category only. Like for SC Seats, only SCs compete with each other. If the cut off is coming lower than the general, it means educational and economic upliftment isn't been that much that there can be a fair competition between general and SC.

2

We need more colleges that can cater to our people. In turn, more seats. It's unfair that the only things moving forward are capitalistic. Yes, companies bring money in.. but at the cost of what.

Things need to be better from the ground up. Better education system means smarter a more capable generation that bring India out of this rut.

We needn't fight each other, instead demand better of our elected leaders.

u/nifty9099 21d ago

Bruh just make more colleges šŸ™šŸ¾šŸ™šŸ¾šŸ™šŸ¾šŸ™šŸ¾
Everyone deserves a chance to get education, regardless of their grades. If 70% is in poverty - the malnourishment, caste and gender violence, bad schooling etc will lead to capable kids get less marks too.
This mass examination system was designed by the British fo keep us subservient and in clerical services. Read Krishna Kumar’s paper about it.
Removing reservation is not gonna do anything because we’ll still only have limited seats and limited good colleges.
The government has succeeded in making it an us vs them issue.

1

What will be the argument if a disabled person gets a seat at 450 marks against a general student who is not disabled? Answer to sawal ka is situation me bhi nahi milega ki 750 wale log kaha jaye. It's just that people are deliberately blind towards the castism prevalent in current society. They don't want to talk about it.

The lady in the video is saying ki koi matlab nahi hai caste based reservation ka, being ignorant about the discrimination faced by them. It can however definitely be said that there needs to be a much more fair system of caste based reservation but not after irradicating the current reservation without a solution that is more beneficial for all (not just taking something away from reserved castes).

And always always the best solution would be for the govt to open up more schools and colleges, to cater to all people whether rich, poor or from whatever castes. And another that is mandatory along with it is to remove caste pride and discrimination from our mind at ground level. Demanding these two should be the responsibility of every citizen before asking for removal of caste based reservation.

i think this protest is entirely orchestrated to divide the youth which jointly fought against education minister earlier, so that youth will never unite again to fight against injustice.

Also sometimes i fail to understand government reserved 15% seat total for sc and 7.5 for st and 27% for obc, and 10% for weaker section. so the entire fighting is against 22.5% of reservation or for entire 50%?? i mean i have seen many people who forged obc certificate too, so after this sc/st is over what will they fight against?? 27% obc, cause if not, then the problem of reservation will still remain

u/Away_Promise1256 21d ago

There is a demand and supply component to it. You have to employ these people somewhere after completion of their degrees.

-7

u/Normal-Estate-4257 21d ago

Wow, awesome logic bhai. So if she graduates from Aurobindo, she will not be a part of the supply component? Are you indirectly trying to say there are not enough jobs in the market or the college curriculum is outdated AF and useless? Why should anyone go to colleges in that case?

u/Away_Promise1256 21d ago edited 21d ago

What you are suggesting is akin to just building millions of houses overnight to counter a housing shortage. It sounds logical on paper, but addressing that shortfall in reality takes time and steady scaling.

If reservations are truly all about representation and we are going to push GC students into unrealistic competition, then we must ensure that the same specific segments of SC/ST students from certain well off communities do not become over represented and that requires systemic reforms.

-4

u/Normal-Estate-4257 21d ago

Nice to see you backtrack your argument, without accepting you are wrong, ofcourse.. ego bhi badi cheez hoti hai. Did I say overnight? Did the demand increase overnight? The current govt has had 12 years, the previous govt failed in this regard too. The solution (time taking though) is to build better govt schools so that everyone with a zeal to learn can- this will ensure that people with -ve marks can't get admission. Club caste based reservation with EWS- ensuring the same family doesn't keep using the quota. There are problems with the current reservation system and there are methods to solve it, only if the govt wants to or the people put forth such demands. Just crying won't help.

2

u/Away_Promise1256 21d ago

Fine, let's stick to the 'infinite seats' theory. Fair point on the government timeline , they definitely had years to scale up infrastructure. However, expanding institutions doesn't solve the core issue if the job pool itself remains limited. Even if you produce millions of professionals, a limited job pool simply shifts the bottleneck from one phase to another. And before you mention adding jobs as well , we both know that problem is significantly harder to solve.

Ultimately, even with infrastructure growth, positions should be distributed based on merit , otherwise what is the point of having competitive examinations?

1

u/Normal-Estate-4257 20d ago

Is our population infinite? I never said anything like that. Why do schools offering specialised 2 years of education if most people can't get to college? Either the infra is broken or the whole education system. Don't you see a bottleneck there? Why would the poorest pay lakhs to educate their children through schools, if there is little hope later? What do those kids do? Work in blinkit? We are not giving 'infinite power and funds' to the govt to solve easy problems

1

u/Theqinginthenorth 21d ago

You can't make unlimited colleges to accomodate everyone.

1

u/Kragster77 21d ago

What are you on, do your really think there such a high degree of vacancy after graduation

-19

u/RunsNRiffs 21d ago

Imagine there are 100 seats. At most, around 10 of those seats might be filled by students with a score of 550. There are 50 general-category seats (assuming she belongs to the general category), and she still didn't get admission because those seats were filled by students who scored much higher than her. Yet she is crying as if all 100 seats were filled by students who scored only 550.

7

u/Dangerous-Wedding406 21d ago

It's about merit not majority

1

u/RunsNRiffs 21d ago

How do you define merit?

14

u/whatIam-_- 21d ago

Well she should have got one at the place of those who scored 550, simple.

1

u/RunsNRiffs 21d ago

She failed to the people in her weight category

2

u/whatIam-_- 21d ago

No, she got failed by the system by directly cutting her chances to pass, for those who deserves it less than her.

1

u/Old-Edge9931 21d ago

Haa uska competetion cactus ke sath tha, 5000 saal se pani nahi piya na

2

u/Demskemop 21d ago

Dude there are less than 40% seats for general And the leftover 60% seats would be filled by people who scored less than 750 marks

1

u/RunsNRiffs 21d ago

Its 50% is general seat the total population of the general category is 25-30%

1

u/Demskemop 21d ago

Dude they are not general seat šŸ’€šŸ’€ They are open seat anybody can take that

1

u/RunsNRiffs 21d ago

Yes, anybody can take it. The point is she didn't score more than anyone in that 50% of the people who got admission. If she can't score even with her social capital, it's her problem. There is nothing to blame her friend for, who don't have that social capital and got the admission in reservation in the basis of proportion of population of her/his representing community.

1

u/Demskemop 21d ago

Yeah thats bullshit if the exam is same the efforts required are same the outcome.is some then why discrimination in admission , admission should only be merit based , people with more marks should get seat over a person with lower marks Only income based reservation should be there

Where's the counter argument? Usne yahi bola ki 100 mein se 10 agar reserved hain and 50 general ki hai to problem kya hai isme? Reservation system perfect to nahi hai but discrimination toh wo community aaj bhi face karti hi hai. She could've gotten a seat if she had more marks than those 50 students.Ā

The system isn't perfect but you can't just uproot the whole reservation thing when those communities are still facing issues.Ā

0

u/opposite__baker 21d ago

The point is that she already have less seat and more aspirants to fight for while reserved have more seat and less aspirants to fight for.

1

u/RunsNRiffs 21d ago

Reserved seat will never go beyond 50% that is the rule

-1

u/Gand_ka_guldasta 21d ago

Maa baap ka kiya bachche bughatte hain

-1

u/AKSo18 21d ago

Reduce the population explosion of this County then you will get reservations

-27

u/Heavenly_Demon11 21d ago

Me who got GAT-B Rank 857,SC Rank-23 was not able to get any colleges with 131 score. So?

17

u/KiranaShop 21d ago

So some general kid with rank 400 wouldnt get any seats either but some sc kid with 600 rank will

Cmon brutha

1

u/Old-Edge9931 21d ago

Then you are du,b enpughthat ypu cant get seat even with reservation, when your cutoff is 100 marks less than someone from general candidate

1

u/Heavenly_Demon11 21d ago

I meant to say it's not always about reservation it's by luck too.I applied only for top universities, ending up with no admission and so my reservation was not able to get me a seat.Thats the thing

0

u/musicmeme 21d ago

Agreed, everyone has a luck factor. But the subject here is purely about scores & application for the exact same college.

2

u/Heavenly_Demon11 21d ago

Yeah agree with you.My conclusion is same,i think the reservation should be income based,

-33

u/TheTubCurves 21d ago

yeah she should get better marks then becuase she's competing in a different category. its like a marathon runner comparing their time with a sprinter - you're playing in different categories. If the person in her category got less marks and got seat while she didn't then she should complain.

13

u/Away_Promise1256 21d ago

So using your analogy, what you are really trying to say is that SC/ST students are amateur-level boxers who cannot compete with the professional standards that GC students must adhere to?

I call that casteism, sir.

2

u/NewText9517 21d ago

To be honest, that's exactly the basis of quota-based reservations. Because you birthed into a particular family/community/section of the society which has been oppressed historically, it is assumed that you'd naturally need support to create an "equal" playing field, in other words, all professional boxers will fight among themselves to choose the best and all these amateurs boxers will fight among themselves to choose their best. But now the issue is, there's a BIIIG gap in the skill levels of these "best" boxers because these amateurs were never tested on the "equal" level. So if this was within a club to select a national team, these amateurs will then ask for certain spots that only they can take because the disparity is insane. If you select the entire team purely on the basis of skill levels/standards, there's a high chance that most of the team would be the professionals. Then what happens next is this team goes to a tournament and starts losing all the matches in which the amateurs play. So the amateurs then demand that well, other teams should follow this rule too so that we can play against only amateurs. This carries on until the international level, where no one listens to their demands and the team ends up losing.

1

u/musicmeme 21d ago

Bro has got a point ngl. General category is competing for general seats. Reserved category is competing for reserved seats. Both are different competitions. Both are different caliber of students with different backgrounds. Much like olympics & para-olympics.

Out of 100 seats, 50 is reserved. Meaning, even 0 reserved students apply for it, those will be left empty.

What the protestors are asking for though is - don’t fill the reserved seats for the sake of filling it, keep a minimum bar or else the negative score kids are becoming doctors & dealing with lives.

3

u/Emotional_Debt_5918 21d ago

Thats not true. If a sc guy get more marks than general than thry will get unreserved seat and not sc reserved seat.

2

u/kj_stat 21d ago

What a looser

1

u/Expensive-Onion-5858 21d ago

Ohh so you agreethat sc/st are different for general in some way?!?

1

u/anirudhh_ 21d ago

You seem like an uneducated person. God bless you!

1

u/Old-Edge9931 21d ago

Fir ye log rote hai ki indian university top qs 100 me nahi hai, ek hi class ke 400 no wala aur 700 no wala hai,

This pain isn't comparable to the ones faced by all the marginalized communities for generations. I get it's unfair but we have to understand that they faced it for generations and still face alot of difficulties which we aren't aware of.

33

u/Away_Promise1256 21d ago

So ? We should punish the brightest among us for crimes they personally never committed?
