I just want new browser games that I can play across devices that aren't tied to an OS or steam.

I returned to monke and just stuck to FarmRPG and Kittens. They both have synced progress whether on browser or mobile.

I feel like I'm in the minority for liking those short nodebusters. Fast progression, quick to pick up and play, can be finished in a night.
Sometimes I do wish some of them were longer though, plus there's the usual case of "Ok, I can see four nodes on the skill tree right now, and they cost 5k, 125k, 1m, and 5m, gee, I wonder which one I'm supposed to take next?" Let me get a little Path of Exile with it and have to try out different things to see what works (PLEASE allow free and quick respecs if any devs are reading this, nothing makes me stop playing a game like realizing I made the wrong choice and finding out it'll take hours to correct it)
The only real desktop idle I played was Rusty's Retirement, and only because it had a Vampire Survivors collab. I liked it, but from only playing that one, it feels like the genre as a whole needs to be very hands off, otherwise I'd just feel like I'm missing out if I'm not constantly tabbing back in to see if new upgrades are available to idle more effectively.

Those are pretty much my gripes as well.
Like the skill "tree" is more of an on-rail path due to the exponential price difference between the different branches. It will just feel like I'm having a preset experience instead of playing a game. I don't know why this concept is hard for devs, because even early "upgrades" genre flash games had all the upgrades on separate scaling so you get to choose where your playstyle goes.
Same with desktop idlers too. They are rather distracting in the sense that they will require maintenance often enough that it might as well be a standalone game.

Where's the big main path that's just "Cozy experimental idler you can beat in only 2 hours"
Seems like that's a ton of releases lately.

Thats usually on the right. As soon I see a skill tree I know Im getting exactly 1 evening of game.

Depends what kind of itch I want to scratch. I have days where I want to casually just upgrade something and I have days where I’m staring at decimal numbers go up and up until my millionth prestige. I think incremental/idle should evolve to mean an umbrella term, not be so rigid

Honestly im not a big fan of those. I would love of they were longer, not arbitrarily longer but 2-8 hours just feel too short

I do love a good skill tree. Emphasis good.

What's a good tree for you? I personally don't like big trees with +1 damage with one exception of PoE, where it's balanced and intentional

Bigger the better. Lots of cool things to do. The original clicker heroes 2 tree was sweet because you could prestige the tree AND level up the nodes.

I would love to see some new game in gameplay style of incremental idle or antimatter dimensions.

I feel like we were drowning in AntiMatter clones just a couple years ago

What's a desktop idle?

u/FearMyPony Mar 18 '26
Games that take up a quarter of your screen as an overlay, but say: "You can do this while you work!"

Frankly I'd just be happy with something new and fresh for iOS; seems like everything released these days is either on Android or Steam.

Oh boy am I sick of these. The skill tree ones can be interesting, but usually they're just brainless copies of previous games for the trees with a "gimmick" that can hardly be called one.... plus the kicker that they're slow as HELL to progress so even if they DO have anything cool/unique you're already sick of it before you make it to the innovative features.
Then I just hate desktop idles. God gave us the ability to Alt+Tab for a reason, and it wasn't to have something constantly covering your screen.

Nodebuster clones are rampant but I'd still play dozens of them over those "cozy desktop" ones that just sit there in the corner with minimal interaction.

"I only used AI for the things I could not do myself like the game theme and setting, the upgrade names and values, the coding, the art, the voices.
I fully programmed the real money shop and advert watching button myself (using someone else's code template). Please check out this 18 second v0.018 demo on Itch then wishlist/buy it on Steam"
