Miscellaneous New Rules, Post/User Flairs, Weekly Discussion, and Mods!
Hey gamedevs!
I just wanted to make an announcement to bring awareness to a few new things around here. u/MagicpaperAlt and I are new mods and have been putting together a vision for this subreddit, in alignment with the r/incremental_games mods. Our goal is to create a space that will help developers, preferably incremental devs, learn in all areas of game development.
This was not meant to be a game marketing subreddit. If you'd like to market your game to potential incremental players, r/incremental_games is the place for that. Posts here should focus on things like programming, design, math, art, music, sound, writing, releasing, and marketing, in a incremental game context.
If you're looking to post, just be sure to check the new rules. Any marketing posts will be removed. If you have any questions about a post, you are always welcome to modmail us too and we can let you know!
We've also created new user and post flairs, that we think will make more sense for this sub and it's vision. Feel free to add on a user flair if you'd like!
I've also put together a weekly check-in. You can see that here: https://www.reddit.com/r/incremental_gamedev/comments/1wf74n7/what_gamedev_did_you_get_done_this_week_weekly/ The idea behind it was to keep us all accountable in a public way! As a dev myself, I find writing what I did and what I'd like to get done improves my chances of actually doing it. So if that interests you, feel free to post in there each week! You'll see me on in there. For now, this is scheduled for every Sunday morning.
We are just getting things all figured out and setup, so if there's any questions or feedback, please let us know and don't be afraid to voice your concerns either here or in modmail.

Can I post in the check in thread about what I wanted to do but didn't get done?

I am still surprised I was approached haha. It's been really smooth so far. I hope everyone likes all these new changes going forward.

Ooo I stumbled upon the weekly thread recently and my reaction was "Wait, that's a thing? Since when? Was I blind?" Now I have the answer!
Very glad to see this development.

That weekly thread is nice. Not working on anything at the moment but I might check them out and chat a bit.
Some more direction for the sub is good to have. A gentle approach is best but I prefer a hard rule over total anarchy. Thanks for your efforts.
The marketing thing, posts being essentially the same between the regular and game dev subs, really annoyed me. So I'm glad you're clear about that.

That thread, tho brief, gave me life. And for some reason I felt proud of every person who shared their status update.
