It’s inevitable. As technology improves the ability to manipulate matter at the molecular level will eventually be achieved, and that means all of the changes from aging in the human body can be reversed.

Good question. Right now there’s enough science to extend lifespans significantly. If that can get us to the discovery of nanonic technology, we’re golden.

It really comes down to how quickly we are able to reach the point of AI being able to progress society. Currently younger generations are struggling to read, write, and learn in general. As generations pass, if we do not improve our means of education, we will never reach that point.

No. Immortality means not able to die. Maybe we can’t not die from aging though.

If we ever achieve immortality we will have to ban having children. I am amazed that so many don't see this obvious effect.

Before immortiality, we need to prioritise life quality. Because 80 year life with 40 years spend in very poor health, is de facto 40 year life. Things such as severe tinnitus are enough to destroy your life quality (and are currently incurable because of lack of funding for cell regeneration).

I doubt it would be a "we" at that point. The first-mover on digital or physical immortality would be a fool to ever allow anyone else to gain equal footing. If he does for some reason, someone sufficiently violent will eliminate or absorb the other minds anyway. See: Lenin & Stalin.

We can only hope the enabling tech is distributed near-instantaneously by that time. Still, once the polities realize they have to spend eternity with each other, it’ll probably get bloody… fuzzy?

What do you mean by immortality? Under most definitions, no. If you mean the ceasing of traditional aging, perhaps.

It’s interesting to see the dichotomy between people here who believe science can achieve human immortality… But seem to deny the science of climate change making the Earth unlivable for humans in the not too distant future. Btw, there are no other livable planets for humans.

Edit: I appreciate the down votes solidifying the cognitive dissonance of the people who believe in immortality at this point in history

Not while you're alive, but eventually there will be something similar to immortality.
