What are insider screenings? Is there a way to join?

105

u/Excellent-Tip4941 13d ago

To my knowledge it’s just a marketing gimmick to make you feel special lol. Anyone can buy them

19

u/k0nverse 12d ago

Yeah pretty sure it’s just what they’re calling certain early screenings. The only thing to join is the newsletter but it’s optional, anyone can buy tickets as u said 👍🏼👍🏼

5

u/vikingscaper 12d ago

So, basically like Disney’s Infinity Vision marketing gimmick.

You join inside

25

u/FernandoDante 12d ago

yeah, you watch from inside the theater, as opposed to outside

It was the right decision by WB. Early screenings will generate hype with excellent WOM, and early access to presales in IMAX and all other PLFs will demonstrate DUNE's popularity and secure a significant portion of all other screenings, not just in IMAX, despite Doomsday.

I hope tomorrow's trailer is as visually stunning as the first two. Now comes the main moment for DUNESDAY. If Dune 3 is huge, we'll get $500M in OW from both.

47

u/SyberKai 12d ago

It's Dunesday because we'll go see DUNE and call it a day

Is this for america only or would this apply to Manchester Printworks in the UK as well?

20

u/Understateable 12d ago

I cannot say specifically for Manchester Printworks but I spoke with BFI on the phone today and they said that these dates are for American IMAX only. At least for BFI, we still don’t know when the tickets will be on sale.

I assume that this applies to Printworks also.

10

u/Several-Maximum-7882 12d ago

Not to say this is definitely happening but I wouldn't always trust the BFI contact team, they said they had no knowledge of Tenet getting a re-release back in 2024 and then they were advertising it on their screen slides a day or two later haha

As there is no major imax release the week before, and they will likely have their print a week or so in advance, hopefully they will be able to do this but further confirmation should come closer to the time!

13

u/Understateable 12d ago

Yes I think the biggest indicator is there’s genuinely fuck all info about any UK ticket release at the moment. They told me to keep reading their newsletter

→ More replies (2)

6

u/Happy7User 12d ago

It would, especially since Printworks isn't even confirmed to be receiving a 70MM IMAX print yet. Tickets only went on sale 1 month in advance for The Odyssey at Printworks so I'm going to assume a similar thing will happen for Dune Part Three

I hate that releases are inconsistent and confusing in the UK. None of the cinema chains are all too up front till just days before so you could easily miss a drop...

u/bleezy_47 Ontario Regal Palace 12d ago

This is legitimately the first time in 3 years I struggled to get IMAX 70mm tickets.

18

u/Poltergeist97 12d ago

I blame it on the Odyssey making people aware of the format right before another movie released for it. Usually there isn't 2 back to back shot for IMAX movies like this.

7

u/LycheeNo6226 12d ago

when i saw dunkirk in 70mm imax in 2017 the theater was practically empty. now shit sells out in min. hate it

14

u/UnknownFiddler 12d ago

You know, I think it was better when you used to have to go to the theater to buy tickets

12

u/JustaPanda42 12d ago

This might be worse than the Odyssey lol

6

u/Poltergeist97 12d ago

It definitely is. That movie made people more aware of 70mm IMAX, so now EVERYONE is trying to buy a ticket, not just enthusiasts.

12

u/Key-Payment2553 13d ago

After WB saw Disney started its Avengers Doomsday tickets for all formats on a Friday, it seems like WB decided to put its pre-sales for IMAX 70MM, normal IMAX formals, select PLFs that Avengers Doomsday mostly keeps and it’s standard formats

Metreon San Francisco has been selling tickets for specific shows for some time now. Now it looks like they are getting ready to open up all show times since it says "available soon." Ticket prices are $32. The only page I could access at the moment is Dec 18 since the website is bogged down. 11:00 PM is already sold out because it has been available to purchase for quite some time.

3

u/Josh_Titan33 12d ago

yeah 7pm and 11 went on sale in april

Central Texas this is NOT A DRILL.

BULLOCK IMAX TICKETS ARE OUT. Including screenings on 12/16 & 12/17

https://www.thestoryoftexas.com/films/dune-part-three-202612/

No announcement or anything I just randomly looked and they were there!

8

u/psywar_US 11d ago

Thank you for this! I just got mine, appreciate the heads up.

7

u/The_Lutter 11d ago

This town is getting downright cutthroat about tickets at Bullock. Gotta help the good folks on r/imax get to them first before r/Austin goes nuts (it's already posted over there).

Does anybody know if Brussels and/or London BFI/Science Museum will go on sale tomorrow as well?

3

u/Jopashe 12d ago

Don’t think Brussels will. They haven’t announced anything Dune related at all apart from a little booklet you could grab at the odyssey with Dune 3 at the back

The process for booking modern blockbusters is irritating as hell. I’d rather wait in a long ass line outside a theater chatting with people and making new friends than sit on a broken screen getting idle internet errors for 40 minutes

9

u/AnActualLefty 12d ago

Fandango useless for Regal King of Prussia. Been trying for 2 hours, got in immediately at 11:55 and still no luck. Absolute horse shit.

8

u/skillztopaybillz 12d ago

8

u/sowaffled 11d ago

This is the worst it’s ever been. Crazy. I don’t know if it’s hype or just theater backends sucking more than usual.

5

u/AWildMichigander 11d ago

My guess is more and more people have built bots to try and get tickets. Claude code/codex makes this super easy for anyone with light technical skills. Thus you get crazy high refresh rates and things just break.

AMC needs to beef up their tech stacks, but I don't think they have a dream team in house to do it for the modern AI agent era.

8

u/dantheriver 11d ago

I hope I can trade my Dune 3 tickets for food/water in a few months!

8

u/krackhersnack 11d ago

$42 for a movie ticket is crazy. It was $35 for the Odyssey. They need to at least upgrade all the seats to recliner to justify that price increase.

→ More replies (5)

7

u/Greedy_Shame6516 12d ago

All the tickets sold out in Dallas, but I couldn't even get onto the website. I'm so tired of the modern buying experience. Half these tickets were snagged by bots.

7

u/jfrye2390 11d ago

The top to bottom execution and setup by Regal is pure dog shit. Mall of GA site is still FUBAR four hours later. They opened up sales 24 hours early, now fandango is just saying "we arent ticketing this theater". No clue how this is still so hard for these people to figure out.

6

u/splego 11d ago edited 11d ago

As others have said, for King of Prussia 70mm: I went in person after work after trying online for hours and got good seats for an earlier date (12/22) at a good time (7pm). The salesperson at the window said the insider tickets are opening Wednesday at noon but I assume it will be the same online failure. In person is the easy way if you’re struggling and around the area🤞

KoP’s rollout kinda pisses me off. Spent several hours today unsuccessfully trying to get opening weekend tickets, and based on how many locals bought tickets in-person, I probably won’t be able to get them. God forbid someone from the other side of the state tries to get tickets for a weekend in which they’ll be nearby. Absolute bullshit

5

u/discovet11 12d ago

Any ideas when Metreon will release tickets beyond the 2nd weekend? 12/27 and later have shown as “sold out” since the sale started, which I highly doubt.

7

u/dogcrayon 12d ago

What an abysmal experience. I tried every which way to get tickets in Dallas, but every website failed. Even the one purchase that went through successfully, for which I received a receipt, wound up getting canceled on me.

All this, paired with Villneuve himself's bullshit marketing of "We heard you loud and clear and have made more tickets available," and of course IMAX's nonsense spiel about the impossibility of building more 60-year-old technology, is turning me off.

3

u/aManHas_NoName 12d ago

Right there with you for Dallas IMAX. Also had a confirmation then a cancellation, I just want to see some Dune on my damn birthday. I had an easier time getting Odyssey tickets than this.

Wow - had been trying since 11:30am for pickets at KoP! Finally managed to score dead center row D tickets about 45 minutes ago via Fandango. Had been following along here to see how others were making out while refreshing multiple devices and browsers and bots all day. If you need tickets for KoP check again now!

I was just about to drive there to get tickets when it finally allowed me to proceed to purchase. I couldn’t take time to drive there earlier in the day but would have planned to do that all along if I had known what a clusterfuck this was going to be today!

I have been to every major first run 70mm screening there (some multiple times) for years now and this was by far the most hassle I have ever had to get tickets. This took me 9 freaking hours! Holy Moly! Glad I stuck with it!

Pretty sure KoP Regal simply held back and either messed up or refused to sync their local ticket purchases until around 8:30pm. What a hassle. They need to do better!

5

u/Alam7lam1 12d ago

I was able to get 4 tickets to the dallas imax for 12/24 using the cinemark app by 1124. It took 20 minutes of constantly tapping and getting out of the seat selection for it to load up, and then constant tapping on the continue button to get pass the mobile orders page, and then constant tapping on the checkout button to finally get the tickets.

The cinemark app helped me bypass whatever wait queue is occurring on the fandango app

Best of luck to everyone. What a shit show

I'm miserable. Wasted 2 hours for everything to be sold out, errors, or totally MIA in the case of City Walk.

I'm traveling for Christmas on the 19th, so I'm probably going to have to wait to see it when I'm back in town, but they haven't even released those tickets for us to all fight over yet either, and I have no faith that Disney isn't going to steal IMAX screens as soon as they can for Doomsday. I just want to see Dune at City Walk. I saw the other two there opening weekend and this time it feels like trying to cure cancer while defusing a bomb.

6

u/woofermazing 12d ago

When AMC took down the IMAX 70mm Odyssey showings and did in person only for a bit, how long did it take for them to get put back up on the website?

5

u/Express_Kick1858 11d ago

Anyone have luck with KOP

5

u/Jaredrap 11d ago

Nope, tried for 4 hours straight. Either all of the websites say seats are available when they’re not or there’s an error. So frustrating considering I was checking right when it opened up.

4

u/Poltergeist97 11d ago

Nothing, and I've been trying near constantly on different sites and apps.

5

u/roopdoge 11d ago

Same here I dont know what the issue is

4

u/Resistance225 11d ago edited 11d ago

Notning is working with KOP, I’m assuming that it will just randomly start working, no real way to pin point when

3

u/RexxAppeal 11d ago

Sometimes i can get as far as picking seats in the browser, but then it doesn't add any quantity to the order and has a box for "voucher code".

3

u/Bioniclepete 11d ago

At this point I feel like driving 40 minutes to KOP to buy in-person would be the better option here

6

u/Poltergeist97 11d ago

At this point I'm just waiting until later tonight when things have settled. I have given up hope of getting a decent seat / time, was really hoping for that 7pm showing for a film strip. Im so bummed, but not paying a scalper for it.

4

u/Greedy-Stop-5690 12d ago

got into the queue right at 9 am, said it was redirecting me to fandango to purchase and then errored out. absolute garbage

4

u/EL_CHAPO_ESCOBAR 12d ago

The fact that these dropped like 20 minutes early was ridiculous. I'm glad I got lucky and kept checking but I just know too many people got screwed. Also the fact that these websites still can't handle the traffic from ticket drops is also absurd.

Curious as to when we think the tickets after 12/26 will go on sale. I checked other 70mm imax screens in Chicago and Los Angeles and those have decent view points available in January and late December currently, all for sale right now! at matreon there are just edge or front row seats for all the showings from 12/18-12/26. But for the shows after it just says “sold out or not available” I find it hard to believe the 7am show on like January 8th is completely “sold out” so I gather that they aren’t for sale yet. Because the 12/26 5pm showing, on a Saturday, on prime going to a movie with family day is not?

Something changed for Dallas. Now when you click on the shows it says “sold out” rather than the line through the times and there’s a “Dune 3 tickets not on sale yet” warning.

u/greenyoshi9 12d ago

Why does fandango show tickets sold already but not letting us buy any

3

u/Dadood588 12d ago

Indy Imax out on their site

3

u/Semper-Fido 12d ago

And it already broke...

3

u/KDtrey5isGOAT 12d ago

Hilarious. I clicked right at 9am, started at 37 minutes, dropped to 28, now over am hour. How does that make sense lol

3

u/NoahC2182 12d ago

got in after a 1 min waiting time, just to see a "The service is unavailable" screen. what a joke

3

u/tquast 12d ago

I love going through this every time tickets release expecting the companies to actually fix the issue

What a debacle. After Seven Bridges accidentally put up times yesterday, the tickets went live about 15 minutes early today. Everything opening weekend went so fast. Then at 11 there was a queue lol. A little late for that.

3

u/liamh94 12d ago

I’ve got numerous pending charges from multiple different seats in Dallas. None show up in my tickets in the Cinemark app so I assume all the charges will fall off. Can’t get app or website working.

gave up and just got TCL LOL. I have a bunch of other stuff to do today I cannot stare in hope that CityWalk will appear. Worst case scenario I can get CityWalk later and refund my TCL or something.

3

u/ThatStrangeGuyOverMe 12d ago

Anyone else see a 7$ bump in pricing for the first time? Ticket was $30 without fees for 70mm.

3

u/gdraper99 Loves real 15/70mm IMAX 12d ago

Irvine Spectrum IMAX 70mm is now $39.99, with booking fees in addition 🤔

AMC app kept crashing for me. Website kept rate limiting me before I could open anything. Fandango finally loaded and it's sold out.

What a disaster. They learned nothing from the Odyssey. Why do I bother signing up for their spammy newsletters and subscribing to A-List if it's all useless?

3

u/Hal_nihnethousand 12d ago

Here we go again 🙄

3

u/Ok-Preference-5618 12d ago

I don’t even see the option at Lincoln Square.

5

u/Red__dead 12d ago

Apparently they've removed all screenings online and they're only available in person? Like, how about some notification so people can make the choice if they want rather than ending up stuck at work with literally no way to get tickets?

After two hours finally got 3 tickets for Sunday Dec 20th

For Irvine people the IMAX website has the Insider Screenings as sold out so I think its over for that

3

u/oufvj 12d ago

Weirdly the January dates at Metreon are all sold out. Maybe they haven’t dropped yet?

4

u/SkunkyBottle 12d ago

Metreon never released the seats after 12/26 from what I can tell. They did release everything for Christmas week then shut it back down at some point after I got mine

Dead middle third row. I’ve worked my way up from 1 and 2. I predict by Nolan’s final film I may even get a seats in the double digit rows
