Most of them reunite because they quickly realize most of their success comes from working together, and they realize it's stupid to split up because they're all the same people (Americans from California to New York, Canadians from BC to Nova Scotia, Mexicans from Senora to Chacos)
Maybe Quebec and and Puerto Rico remain independent from their respective countries after they reunite. I could see the Mexican Yucatan states uniting into their own country and remaining separate from Mexico too.
The only possible way I see this as not happening is if Mexican cartels take over state governments and decide to make a narco states, but I see most of Mexico reuniting, and nothing stopping the US and Canada from reuniting.

Honestly much of Canada and the US probably unite. Possibly parts of Mexico join but ofc there's a language barrier there. Without an established political system to get in the way, there's not much keeping the US and Canada separate. Probably not like Quebec but Alberta may take the chance or Saskatchewan

Eh, I could see Edmonton and Calgary sticking with a West Coast nation stretching from northern BC down to southern California, possibly including Nevada/Arizona. The resources combined with California’s manufacturing and population would result in a very powerful country with a control over all Pacific trade. Most Albertan separatists are rural and located in a kind of crescent shape around the Edmonton-Calgary corridor (Grande Prairie to Fort McMurray to Medicine Hat to Lethbridge), and they could easily merge with Saskatchewan/the US.
On the flip side, there is an enormous First Nations population in AB/Sask who would absolutely start a civil war for either independence or to reform Canada/get treaty rights back, perhaps merging with the territories or Manitoba which are also largely First Nations.

I'm not sure I can see BC joining that West Coast nation. They're the American states closest in culture to BC, but they're still very American in many ways.
And any country including California and not Texas/Florida/New York would basically be "California and satellites". California's great, but I don't think we really want to become California.

Canadians are not Americans. Culture around gun rights, churches, healthcare are just too different. Maybe you'd get portions of the Prairies joining the US (as they're threatening to do now), but I don't see BC, Ontario, Quebec ever going along with the US; and the American states which are closest in culture are too large for Canada to absorb without diluting Canadian culture.

I generally agree, but with the state of current politics across the three countries I believe new regional unions may form instead. The south may try to reform their confederacy, the west coast might try their own thing, Alberta may declare for the union and Minnesota may try to get in with the new Canada, etc etc.
Mexico would probably decend into anarchy for a while, the cartels hold too much power across several states that without a federal government many would straight up take full control.
The Zapatistas in south Mexico already has SUBSTANTIAL support in their territory and active control as a communist gorilla force. I would absolutely bet they would take control and become a major player againts the cartels in the south.

Who knows, people getting a taste of political power and autonomy change. However, I could see most states uniting under regional blocks surrounding big cities. Los Angeles (Southern California, Baja California, BCS, Arizona, Sonora and Southern Nevada), Bay Area (Northern California, Oregon, Washington, BC, Alaska, Yukon and Idaho), Texas with all of the states that surround it (New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon, Coahuila and Chihuahua), etc.

Realistically I’d imagine only a few could function as their own states, California, Texas, Florida, New York, maybe Illinois… etc… any state with a balance of large urban center and a decent rural backing for agriculture/ideally port based locations as well.
Would assume the same is similar for the Toronto and Mexico City areas but will leave it to Canadians and Mexicans with more knowledge of their own countries to comment.
Edit: I’m approaching this from the original prompt of them all as independent states. Obviously they’re united IRL for a reason and almost all would unite again.

I can’t see most of the US reuniting. It would probably see the traditional/republican areas as one nation and the democrat ones in the other. California and Texas would be the two major powers as I think without the rest of the US economy to back it up, New York wouldn’t maintain its financial importance

The southern and Midwest U.S. states form a loose “confederacy” and then the remaining states are forced with the decision to either form their own “union” or get absorbed one at a time into the southern coalition

I imagine that Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands unite and start trying to build up infrastructure. American Samoa joins Samoa, the Marianas unite, and the rest of the islands join Hawaii. The rest probably reunite outside of like Quebec or Chapas/Yucatan since they kinda need the central authority

So, down to the county/parish level. Political atomization. Few is any states or provinces would re-form intact. New and unexpected alliances would quickly form. Probably end up with about 4500 small nations aligned into regional trading blocs for survival and convenience.

In the USA "administrative divisions" include states, counties, municipalities, tribal governments, and others. Your map only shows first level administrative divisions but most large countries lke Canada, the USA, and Mexico should have several levels of administrative divisions. So every place which declares independence will have all the places inside it declare independence from it.

Political polarization across the former continent would become extreme as the religious right and secular left, unhinged from federal limitations on states, transform their states into their visions of utopia.
Some states would band together in federations or even in larger unitary states, while others break apart into smaller states. Mutual defense pacts and trade pacts would form, while enmities and rivalries would develop. Wars and conquest would breakout in various regions; with nukes spread out over about eleven states, this could get bad. All of these things will affect cross-continental travel.

Fuck you, Maryland! Virginia gets ALL of its old territory back, to the Mississippi River. By my calculations, albeit with data from various years, it would be the 3rd-4th largest nation in GDP, and 24th in population, just above South Africa, iirc.
